A first grade school teacher in Virginia had twenty-five students in her class. She presented each child in her classroom the first half of a well-known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard to believe these were actually done by first graders. Their insight may surprise you. While reading, keep in mind that these are 1st graders, 6-year-olds, because the last one is a classic!

Wordless Wednesday - Night Safari

If you're visiting Singapore, one of the attractions not to be missed is the award-winning Night Safari - the world's first dedicated night zoo. Housing over 1200 animals of 110 exotic species, the Night Safari gives visitors a unique opportunity to view the animals up close in an open-air zoo after dark. The night zoo is divided into eight geographical zones, which can be explored either on foot via three walking trails, or by tram.
Traipsing down a trail in the dark, I felt like I was in the movie "Jurassic Park". It was kinda unnerving being eyeballed by glowing eyes that darted between trees in pitch-black darkness. And creeping me out even more was this sudden maniacal laughter of a hyena, followed by a howl and then growls.... and the fluttering of wings. A pterodactyl? I was quite sure it was a fruitbat or a giant flying squirrel.
Being in such close proximity with the animals, I wondered about the possibility of us ending up as dinner but Hubby assured that there are cleverly disguised barriers to separate the predatory creatures from us.
Sorry, pallies but I've no pictures of the animals to share as flash photography is not allowed and my compact is totally useless in the dark.

Gwen Murphy - Foot Fetish

Artist Gwen Murphy turns old shoes into works of art by giving them faces. She uses ash clay and acrylic paint to create those bugged-out eyes ,dreary lids, pouty lips and long faces.

"I see a shoe as a kind of fetish, because it has a presence and the power to protect and transport us. Since I was a very young child, I have looked at shoes and found them looking back at me, each pair with its own personality and facial expression. When shoes are lined up near a door or in a closet, they are trusty steeds waiting to serve. Mouths yawning open, they sometimes look sleepy or grouchy. Sometimes they look like they are singing. They are like a better species of beings made entirely of pairs of identical twins. This series of sculptures is my way of bringing forth the presence I see in each pair of shoes."

Morbid as it may seem but these last meal requests by Death Row inmates give us a glimpse into the psyche of someone whose final seconds of his life were ticking away.

S. Thulaashi - Boxing Day Tsunami Miracle Baby

Meet S. Thulaashi, the 2004 Boxing Day Miracle baby who was only 22 days old when she was swept out to sea by the tsunami that hit the cafe shack belonging to her parents, Raja and Mary. Thulaashi made waves when the mattress she was asleep on in the cafe was washed out to sea and sent back again to the cafe by a second wave with baby intact and still in sweet slumber!

Pantai Miami (unflatteringly known as Miami Beach).
For many years, this short stretch of sandy beach was unknown and unnamed. The name was probably conceived from the actual world-famous beach in Florida. This area was the hardest hit by the tsunami.
52 lives were lost in Penang, including 23 at the Batu Ferringhi Area. Sadly, many lives that were claimed were children's and old ladies'. We lost a couple of distant relatives, a mom and her toddler who were taking a stroll at the beach when the disaster struck. Their bodies were never found.
