Just a gallimaufry of AI-generated photos, real photos and ramblings 📸
The pulse of the city
Spotted this rather unusual sign, especially since restroom use is typically free in Malaysia.

FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES

The Grand Place, Brussels 2019
Every two years in August, the square is transformed into a vibrant floral tapestry. Nearly a million begonias are arranged into intricate designs over 1,800 square meters, reflecting themes inspired by cultural and historical motifs. This tradition, which began in 1971, showcases Belgium's horticultural artistry and draws visitors from around the world. The event is accompanied by live music and light shows, making it a must-see spectacle in the heart of Brussels.

I like to imagine that my AI mice buddies might have a role in crafting the Grand Place's flower carpet.

JUST A RANDOM THOUGHT

I love pineapple on pizza—roll your eyes if you must.
I enjoy the sweet and savory combination, which adds a toothsome twist to the traditional flavors.

The debate over pineapple on pizza is one of the most divisive topics in the culinary world. It's a clash between those who swear by the sweet and savory combination and those who believe it’s a culinary abomination.

Proponents of pineapple on pizza, often fans of the Hawaiian pizza, argue that the sweetness of pineapple perfectly complements the salty, savory flavors of ham, cheese, and tomato sauce. They appreciate the contrast in textures and flavors, making the pizza more exciting and less predictable.

On the other hand, traditionalists and purists argue that pineapple has no place on a pizza. They contend that the sweetness disrupts the balance of flavors and goes against the authentic Italian roots of pizza-making. For them, pizza should stick to its original Mediterranean ingredients, like mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, and perhaps a few select meats or vegetables.

The debate has reached such a level of intensity that it has sparked countless online arguments, memes, and even declarations from public figures. In 2017, Iceland’s President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson famously joked that he would ban pineapple on pizza if he could, further fueling the controversy.

But hey, the best pizza is the one you enjoy, pineapple or not, agree?

Now don’t get me started on durian on pizza!

What’s your favorite pizza combination?

  1. Oh, no! How can same people around the World make and eat pizza with pineapple? 🤔 Italian restaurants will never serve such an unusual pizza. 🇮🇹
    Nice photos of Brussels, Veronica.

  3. What a gorgeous show of flowers and well done to the growers and the designers. Love your AI's.
Pineapple on Pizza is yummy for us.
I make my own pizzas mainly in the summer time and cook them in the barbecue, they taste good.

  4. Why on earth can't people eat pineapple pizza if they like it? I think this debate is nonsense! I have tasted it too, and survived! And I AM ITALIAN! 😄😄

  5. Not a fan of pizza...but I am with you that the best pizza is the one you enjoy. The pork chops look great.

  6. Dearest Veronica,
The last ordered pizzas Pieter and I had together were vegan with indeed pineapple and they were very good.
The begonia carpet is a true art!

  7. Hello Veronica :)
The floral display is very beautiful. I had never heard of this event in the grand square in Brussels, and it must have taken ages to make. I think it is only polite to buy something if you use the bathroom facilities. This what I do in my country and would definitely do the same in another. I love pineapple on a pizza and the "Hawaiian Pizza" is my favourite.
    All the best
    Hugs

  8. Wow - that floral carpet in Brussels is so beautiful! I can't imagine how long it took to plan and lay out.
I love pineapple on pizza! My husband does not. So we often do his toppings on one side, mine on the other.

  9. What a lovely flower carpet! It's amazing! I am curious how many days will last. And honestly, a like pineapple, on everything, including salads or pizza.
Happy Today, dear Vronica! Hugs and a fine week!💗😘

  10. Your photos really do capture the city! Never having been to Brussels, your photos make me want to go. That flower carpet is beyond gorgeous. I'm 50-50 on pineapple on pizza. If someone orders it, fine but if I'm ordering, it's not on it.(That said -- pineapple on the grill is the best!)

  11. That floral display is amazing! My favorite pizza is just a plain cheese. I'm boring that way.

  12. That begonia carpet took my breath away with its beauty, Veronica! Pineapple on pizza is not something I'd like to try, but I say, to each his or her own. We usually eat pizza with pepperoni, onions and mushrooms.
    Blessings!

  14. That flower carpet is extraordinary! Such talent and so many bold colors! The Brussels photo is pretty. And the pork chops look delicious. Isn't that something that one has to pay to use the restroom? I've never seen that here in the states.

About the pizza with pineapple on top.....I've had this before, and I liked it, when I was in a Hawaiian mood, but I typically just like all the original toppings on my pizza, and my favorite is Combination! I love a good pizza.

Blessings to you, my friend, as we begin the wonderful month of September.

  15. Dear Veronica,
like you, I am a fan of pizza with pineapple (and Hawaiian toast 😊), for the same reasons as you. My husband has a different opinion, he thinks it is reprehensible to "spoil" pizza with pineapple. He also doesn't like Asian-inspired dishes with pineapple (like "sweet and sour chicken"). I find the pizza that my daughter was once served on a student exchange in London rather perverse: it was pizza with fries... (basically THE combination of the two most popular fast food dishes in the world 😂) I think I like pizza with ham, corn and mild peppers the most. But right now I would like a pineapple pizza with ham.
Wow, the flower carpet in Brussels is amazing! What a huge amount of work that must have been! (Luckily your little mice also helped with the artwork 😉) Our friends Brigitte and Peter help out every year with the flower parade in Bad Aussee; there, figures are mainly decorated with daffodils. (Here is a link to an article in English: https://salzburg-toptours.com/blog/narcissus-festival) It looks great and is also time-consuming, but is probably much less effort than the carpet in Brussels.
    All the best, Traude

  16. Hello, Veronica,
I like to eat pizza with pineapple, I'm not a fundamentalist of traditional food, I think it can evolve and merge with other foods! I loved your photos of AI with the mice making the carpet of the big square in Brussels, what beautiful colours!
    Have a great week ahead!

  20. Now I want to see the flowered square. That looks amazing.

Pineapple on pizza doesn't appeal to me, but I don't much care what others do as I have so many food issues that I would never complain about what others like. My personal faves are chicken and garlic, but most places won't do those toppings. (Maybe the garlic. Rarely the chicken.)

  30. There's small businesses here that get a bit annoyed when people who aren't customers use their toilets but for the most part, other businesse don't really care. I do understand where the former is coming from though.

  31. That carpet of flowers was amazing and one day maybe I will see it close up, Veronica Lee, and visit the grand Palace in Brussels. I have never tried pineapple on pizza but would be willing to give it a try at least once. Our favorite pizza is usually a Margarita with basil and mozzarella cheese, folllowed by a meatball pizza.

You know what -- around this time in Kerala (a state in southern India), we celebrate a festival called Onam and as part of it, we create smaller flower carpets in our homes. Check out https://www.google.com/search?q=pookalam+images

  44. Bathrooms are usually free, but in high tourist areas they sometimes do charge it seems. Mom says pineapple on pizza was popular in Germany when she lived there. It isn't something she would eat, though.

  45. That carpet of flowers looks outstanding and so beautiful! I have to laugh at the pineapple on pizza - I've never tried it but different strokes for different folks. My favorite toppings are pepperoni and mushrooms :)

  48. Hi Veronica, I am so enjoying your posts with the AI-generated photos. I have mentioned AI in a couple of my posts and each time I’ve gotten comments from a few bloggers who find AI as something to be feared. My belief is quite the opposite, AI is like a fascinating genie out-of-the-bottle and we best try to learn about and take advantage of this new technology. Congrats on your use of AI and putting together these excellent posts. Thanks, as always, for sharing your Gallimaufrys! 😊Best wishes to you from Seattle! John
