Mary's Rock Garden of Grace

Our contribution
This rock, adorned with a vibrant cactus against a desert backdrop, painted by Son#2's girlfriend  symbolizes resilience and endurance. It reflects the strength and perseverance in our petitions written on the back. Nestled among the other colorful rocks, it stands out as a testament to our personal journey and the hopes we bring to this sacred space. Each time someone visits the garden, they will see our unique contribution and be reminded of the diverse and heartfelt prayers that fill this place of tranquility and grace.

Let’s grow Mary’s garden with our painted rocks of petitions and prayers, trusting in Her intercession for us.

FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES

Dreamworld, Gold Coast, Australia 1992
Kodak Skylink
The Kodak Skylink chairlift at Dreamworld, Gold Coast, Australia circa 1990 offered scenic aerial views of the park, enhancing visitors' experience with a picturesque ride above the attractions.
I've never been one for rollercoasters; the mere thought of those dizzying drops and sharp turns sends my anxiety through the roof. I prefer sticking to the gentler thrills, like a scenic gondola ride, which is more my speed. If there’s a thrilling experience that suits my cautious nature, it’s definitely something with a slower, more predictable pace.
The wildest adventure I've ever had? Snowtubing at Trübsee Snow Park at the age of 57. It might seem like child's play to some, but for me, it was a significant leap outside my comfort zone. That mild thrill is the biggest adventure I've experienced, and it’s a testament to how my anxiety shapes my approach to excitement.

Trübsee Snow Park Snow Park, Mount Titlis 2019

So while bungee jumping and sky diving remain firmly off my list, I find my own brand of excitement in the simpler, serene experiences. Each one, no matter how mild, feels like a personal triumph in navigating my world with both adventure and anxiety in mind.

And when it comes to merriment, I’m a big fan of merry-go-rounds. Their slow, predictable rotations evoke a sense of nostalgia and simple joy, perfectly mirroring my preference for thrills that are both gentle and delightful.

Okay, I confess—I’m a scaredy cat!

  5. Dearest Veronica,
That Rock Garden of Grace is a nice symbolic thing for leaving our burdens with Mary!
Oh, all those crazy things is not for me either as they would make me so dizzy and sick. Those gondolas are perfect and that's what Pieter and I did in Tennessee, a sky lift and walking a sky bridge. We were not lucky as it started to rain but still it was pleasant.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  11. That rock garden is so neat! Weirdly I prefer the roller coaster to those gondola rides. I am not a big fan of heights and so those rides make me nervous whenever they rock or sway. At least with a roller coaster I'm going too fast to notice how high up off the ground I am and the ride is over in no time.

  39. Love the pretty painted rocks of petitions and prayers in Mary's rock garden!

I'm also a scaredy-cat when it comes to roller coasters. I went through a brief roller coaster phase in my late teens, but I don't have the stomach for these adrenaline rides anymore. I got queasy just watching Tom Cruise rappel down the stadium for the Olympic closing ceremony. LOL.

  40. Wonderful idea with the rock garden! Snowtubing sounds like fun and better than riding a roller coaster. ☺ Love the cute AI mice!

  41. Your cactus on the rock sure stands out among the others. I saw similar idea in a children's playground somewhere.

The first time I went on a roller coaster, I almost lost my glasses. It's probably over 25 years since I went on the last one.

No skydiving or bungee jumping for me either. Not sure if I can still ski. It's been a while, and we're not getting younger, that's for sure!
    Have a great week!
