Santa

I didn't get it at first until the tour guide told us that this ginormous statue  is actually a cheeky Santa holding a butt plug! I thought it was a Christmas tree!

This controversial statue of jolly old St. Nick standing in a square at the end of a busy shopping street in Rotterdam stirred up a huge debate among politicians and residents, reigniting the timeless question of what constitutes art.


I’d just hate to be the parent who has to explain to their child what Santa is holding!

    Weirdness everywhere. I say if it's out there take the best side and go with that story. It's a Christmas tree.

    I would hope my child wouldn't ask, LOL, and then I think I would say "I'm not sure, I'll try to find out" and hope they forget LOL :)

    To me a bit offensive :)

    I would think sometimes you just don't have to tell them everything. If you didn't know what it was as an adult the odds are they'll decide on something harmless and I'd leave them to it. I'd rather have them think I'm ignorant of art later than deal with the hassle in the present.

    Stuff like this to me seems childish. It reminds me of the stunts high school kids play to get attention.

    Being that Santa is for Children, I find it offensive. Some people have a strange sense of humor. I thought it was a Christmas tree too :)

    Now I've heard everything. How do they come up with stuff like that?
    It does look like a Christmas tree though, so that's what I'd tell my child it is.

    Silly, I should say! It would definitely offend a lot of people!
    It's debatable what all can go in for humour and this has to be one of them.

    I also thought, "Christmas tree." I think it's funny, but don't think kids should be exposed to it in a public space. It would be different if it weren't out in the open but then again freedom of expression is a tricky one.

    Wow, that's not my idea of 'art' for sure. Anything that is not child friendly or can be explained easily to a child shouldn't be place in public.

    I would say neither funny nor offensive, it just makes no sense whatsoever. I don't understand the logic behind it and for that reason I really don't have an opinion. It just comes across as being silly! Thanks for linking this up to #globalblogging and hope to see you back next week x
