Day 2 - Scenic Drive From Paris To Zurich

After the whirlwind tour of Paris on Day 1, we were glad for a much-needed slowdown as we travelled by coach from Paris to Zurich. The 6-hour-plus journey gave us time to regroup after the frenetic pace of Day 1.

We stopped for lunch at Dijon, a small, charming French city in the heart of Burgundy.

The name rang a bell! Dijon mustard!!  Yep, it's true. You can find mouthwatering mustards made in Dijon!

Lunch at La Grande Taverne

I passed up on the Foie Gras. I couldn't get the image of workers ramming pipes of grain and fat down the throats of listless ducks in crammed cages out of my mind. I am so very glad that this product of animal cruelty is now already banned in 16 countries. I pray that someday, France will remove this inhumane delicacy from their menus.

We arrived at our hotel in Zurich in the evening, just in time to do some shopping at the Lidl Schweiz Supermarket beside our hotel.

Dinner wasn't provided this evening but we found a nice kebab kiosk about a 15-minute walk away from the hotel called the Äss Bahn Snack.

A kebab costs 9 CHF. One Swiss Franc is about 4.11 Malaysian Ringgit which means that everything here costs 4 times as much!!

I read somewhere that Switzerland has the highest average McDonald's Big Mac price in the world, with an average transaction of $6.54 USD equivalent.  Switzerland happens to have one of the highest overall costs of living in the world.

Dang! Hubby will have to work 4 times as hard to save up for our next trip to Europe!

  1. The food you featured here looked delicious! I remember when we went to the Grand Canyon years ago and ate at a McDonald's. The food was triple what we would have paid in the city where we lived but they explained the water had to be brought to the area and thus that made costs more.

  3. It's worth it to go, even if prices are high. We were hoping to head to Europe this year again too, but have planned a different trip instead (which is fine, but I do miss going abroad). Fun to see your pics. I'm glad you had a nice time.

  4. Prices are always high when you travel and I think you have to expect that. I cannot imagine dropping that much for McDonald's....blech!

I am currently trying to go vegan because my sensitivity to animal cruelty is just getting the best of me. It's horrible.

  6. The food does look wonderful! When I was growing up my father had a foreign exchange student from Switzerland and while the prices and cost of living there are quite high they get some pretty amazing perks! (like working 6 months off and 6 months on so parents can split childcare/ rearing!).

  12. NUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I was drooling over your supper you bought. It looked like a gyro to me, but it sure sounded good. Yummmmm You're one lucky girl to go to Europe, but we're lucky you're sharing such happiness. Thank you

  13. Veronica,

Vacations are fun. Every time we take one I'm like, "I need a vacation from my vacation" because of how we're on the go non-stop the whole time. Gee, whiz I know traveling abroad is expensive but the cost in Switzerland is crazy outrageous. Can I bring food from home? :) Thanks for sharing your day with me through photos. Have fun! ;)

  18. As a vegan I am totally with you in hoping that animal cruelty is wiped out soon for foie gras and other animal products. I had no idea how expensive food prices could be (4 times the cost in your home country!!!) Thanks for linking up with #globalblogging

  25. Switzerland is indeed expensive, but also very beautiful I think. We visited Basel and Dornach in November 2005 and it was wonderful!
Good on you for refusing the fois gras, it’s so cruel, and unnecessary. Sadly, a lot of the meat industry is very cruel in various ways (and learning about that, when I was 10, was what made me a vegetarian). I hope you enjoyed Zürich, and I look forward to reading more about your European tour! X #KCACOLS

Und genau aus diesem Grund sind wir überzeugt, dass in Zürich ein Haus, eine Wohnung oder ein Gewerbeobjekt immer durch einen professionellen Makler geschätzt und anschliessend vermarktet werden sollte.
