🐾 Why it matters:
The Iberian Lynx once teetered on the brink of extinction.
Bordalo II’s work highlights how human consumption and pollution threaten fragile ecosystems.
By turning trash into art, he forces us to confront the impact of our choices while celebrating resilience and beauty.
🌍 A message in color: Every patch of fabric, every piece of plastic, tells a story of waste repurposed into awareness. The lynx’s piercing gaze and bold form invite us to rethink what we throw away—and what we stand to lose if we don’t act.

The Iberian lynx is the world’s rarest wild cat — and one of conservation’s biggest comeback stories. Once on the brink of extinction with fewer than 100 left in the wild, this spotted feline with its dramatic ear tufts and beard-like whiskers is now slowly reclaiming parts of Spain and Portugal thanks to massive rescue efforts.

Quite an impressive one!

Fabulous! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTrash is literally turned into treasure here, Veronica. Wow! This artist has made a powerful statement on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to highlight the excess of trash produced in the world as well as the need to preserve the lynx's existence.
ReplyDeleteWhat a talented artist!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's beautiful. Well done, indeed.

That's a powerful message sent through a combination of artwork and recycling. The artist turns waste into impactful artwork.

ReplyDeleteWow, Veronica! What an interesting sculpture, and such an important message behind it to bring awareness to a dwindeling number of native lynx.
ReplyDeletewow! that's impressive!
ReplyDeleteI truly loved it...The sculpture manages to make a wild animal look both fierce and approachable at the same time, while also being beautifully artistic to the eye. I sometimes wish our towns and cities were filled with more creations like this, much like the statues of Ancient Greece and Egypt. Just imagine what it would feel like to walk among such beauty every day.
ReplyDeleteIt's a striking sculpture. These sorts of things are very important in raising awareness.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome
ReplyDeleteWow what an amazing piece of art and what a great way to put the attention to the Iberian lynx I didn't even know Europe had wild cats. A beautiful animal
ReplyDeleteThe Lynx is beautiful and so huge! That's a lot of trash in that one statue.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing piece of art, and such an important message behind it too. It's so sad to think that our actions are destroying the planet and other species which inhabit it, the message has to be got across in so many ways to make people aware.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess.

ReplyDeleteThant is awmwzing ART!
ReplyDeleteTotally amazing, very creative!!
ReplyDeleteWow! ~ so expressive and marvelous creation with such divine purposes ~ Hugs ^_^
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if I like this or not, but it sure is interesting. The eyes -- they're very scary! And I have to say it is extremely creative and quite -- well, amazing -- that anyone could pull that off.
ReplyDeleteCharlee: "That is one colorful cat. Both versions!"
ReplyDeleteFantastic photos and information.
ReplyDeleteI know that sculpture very well, as I pass by it many times.
