Monitor Lizard
Monitor lizards can get quite large—some species, like the water monitor (Varanus salvator), can reach lengths of up to 2-3 meters (6-10 feet). They are impressive reptiles and definitely among the larger lizards in the world.
ZONGZI SEASON IN FULL SWING
Spotted this vibrant stall at our local pasar malam (night market) prior to the Dragon Boat Festival on May 31st. There were so many delicious varieties of zongzi to choose from, all beautifully wrapped and full of festive flavour.
Amid the stacks of zongzi, the tiny mouse helpers worked their magic—carefully wrapping and tying each one with delicate precision.Dinner - Tonkatsu
Tonkatsu is a popular Japanese dish made of breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet—usually pork loin (rosu) or fillet (hire). It's coated in flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs for a crispy finish, then sliced and served with shredded cabbage, rice, miso soup, and a tangy-sweet tonkatsu sauce.

DeleteI like the pictures of the landscape.
Have a nice weekend!
I got hooked on tonkatsu when I was in Japan but have never been able to make it well here. I suppose because I don't deep fry, just pan fry. But it's so good. And I miss miso soup, too. I should get some packets at the Asian market. It reminds me it's time for yakitori and somen again!
ReplyDeleteThe father and son mice are just the cutest, Veronica. May all dads enjoy a beautiful day this Sunday. Blessings!
ReplyDelete

ReplyDeleteI wish those little mice would have told me more about what zongzi is! I will just have to go and ask Mr Google (fortunately he is right here in front of me ;>))/ Loved the dinner photo and description too . And I thought that Monitor Lizard was an alligator or crocodile for a minute! We have big lizards around here in Florida too, but not that big!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your photos and thoughts! I wouldn't want to be near those reptiles, I'm scared!
ReplyDeleteYour mice are as cute as ever. Since food varies so much from country to country, that Japanese dish must be delicious! Happy weekend! Hugs, Veronica!
Thanks for the Father's Day wishes. How scary would it be to run across a Monitor lizard in the wild??!
ReplyDeleteVeronica Lee, I also wondered about what zongzi was made of and learned from online sources that it's sticky rice.

PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
I don't see lizards of that size in everyday life in Florida. We have loads of little ones which I don't mind. I must admit I did see a 5 ft one in south Florida once years ago sunning on a retaining wall by a canal. He then slid in the water and disappeared. I hated to think he was somewhere in the water.
ReplyDeleteThe photo with the swan is incredibly moving. The Monitor Lizard is a little scary! I would keep my distance.
ReplyDeleteI love your little mice at the end! How cute. But that big lizard...I would not like to see that!
