Just a gallimaufry of photos ...
FUN FACT
Orchids are the largest family of flowering plants. With more than 25,000 species, there are more orchids on the planet than mammals and birds!

FROM THE SHOEBOX — PHOTOS THAT RARELY SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY
San Francisco 1990
Murals featuring scenes from my hometown Ipoh of yesteryear.
Back in the 60s, trishaws were a popular mode of transport in my corner of the world.
Riding a trishaw to school was a daily routine for us!
Once a tin-mining boomtown
Once a tin-mining boomtown
The tin rush to Ipoh was kinda like the San Francisco Gold Rush. Miners from all over flocked to the area by land and sea, turning the sleepy settlement into a bustling town. But like all boomtowns, Ipoh's glory days came to an end in the 1980s following the depletion of its tin deposits and when tin prices tanked.
Langkawi SkyCab
Longest free span mono-cable car in Malaysia
For the longest time, I thought orchids were very fussy flowers. Now I see them everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThat cable car gives me the willies. I'm sure it's perfectly safe, but I wouldn't want to ride in one.
Wonderful photos, had no idea there are so many orchid species!
ReplyDeleteBellas fotos .Me gustaron las orquídeas y la cacatúa. Me dio gana de los mariscos. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there are so many orchid species, thanks for your sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about the orchids.
ReplyDeleteLove those murals.
I'm not going on those cable cars, but I'm sure it is magnificent views! Interesting fact about the orchids!
ReplyDeletebetty
The orchids are very beautiful! I love to watch your photos of them. The white cockatoo is very pretty too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Veronica!
Hello Veronica. Love the cockatoo! 😄
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Easter weekend!
White cockatoo looks so beautiful! But I love that seafood meal even more :-)
ReplyDeletePlenty of pictures there, love the oldies, and the Cockatoo.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see the historical pictures. I have never ridden in a cable car and have no intention of ever doing so,
ReplyDeleteI never knew there were so many species of orchids but your photos of them are outstanding and just beautiful! All your photos are so much fun to see, and although the view from that cable car may be incredible, I'll keep my feet on the ground! I hope your weekend was wonderful and I wish you a joyful week ahead as well!
ReplyDeleteThe photos are wonderful. I had no idea that there are so many orchids on the planet. I liked the picture's from Ipoh's histor, too. Have a great week, take care, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThe White Cockatoo is a beautiful bird. I have a blog friend from Australia who sees these birds often even in her front yard. The shrimp and pizza look delicious. I don't eat seafood often, but these dishes sure look good. I like the picture of you in San Francisco. I'm very familiar with San Francisco, as it is not too far from my birthplace. We used to visit sometimes. The wall murals from your home town are interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a delightful week.

The white cockatoo is beautiful. Love the cable cars and the murals. The seafood looks delicious. Hope you had a happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.
Every photo is a beauty -- but those orchids and that bird both have such impact. They're terrific.
ReplyDeleteYou always have such a delightful collection of photos! I'm so glad you shared with us at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2022/04/ukranian-church-national-shrine-of-holy.html
ReplyDeleteI've always like orchids, they are so pretty. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos so colourful and all that delicious food that cockatoo is dso cute heheh!
ReplyDeleteHave a cockatootastic week 👍
Deven though the views from the Langkawi SkyCab were quite spectacular, Veronica Lee, I don't think I would want to ride on one of those cable cars myself. As someone who loves seafood, I smiled seeing the french fries with all the meals. Interesting to learn about the orchids being more numerous than mammals and birds. Riding a trishaw to school seems unusual to most of us, but as you said it was a daily occurrence in your childhood.
ReplyDeleteHello,:=) A photo for everyone here. I personally love the White Cockatoo, and the pretty orchid, but the other flower is also pretty. The shellfish meals look delicious, and the views are beautiful. Lovely picture of you, and the murals are most interesting.
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
Love that parrot, really pretty but I'm not sure I'd ride on that SkyCab! The food looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, your scrumptious food photos are making me hungry! I especially love the one one with the fries, shrimps, and mussels!
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteFunny that we could have met in San Francisco as I went there several times with Pieter... But in 1990 we already moved to Indonesia to live and work there.
Oh, orchids are such lovely flowers, we always have several and also in our garden. Back in Indonesia we had them on the wall in our patio, on boards of wood wool. What a showcase they were!
That's how we started having them more and more at home.
Also at the Singapore Airport back then there were thousands of them!
MISS all that...
And you shove the delicious seafood under my nose here... How I would love to grab it with my chopsticks! I can use them like a native 😉
Love that macro photo of the tiny flower!
Hugs,
Mariette
wow...honestly i'm so surprise with some facts of the orchid flower. I love one of the variant that named Anggrek Bulan in my country
ReplyDeleteand seeing bout your seafood dinner, i want to try the potatoes that fried so golden brown
have a nice day Dear^^
eek those gondolas that go up high give me the creeps. Last one I went on was Queenstown, I just dont like how high they go.
ReplyDeleteAmazing pics...those cable cars look both fun and scary at the same time :-)

Great selection of photos, thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely selection of photos!
ReplyDeleteInteresting to note that there are more species of orchids than mammals and birds!
What a lovely collection of your world, from lush orchids that everyone notices, to the tiny overlooked flower that only through magnification we see its great beauty. I love your collection of photos and the stories behind them.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos again, Veronica! Are cockatoos native to Malaysia? The seafood dinner looks EXTREMELY delicious - I love this food! I also find the murals with the scenes from your hometown fascinating (and instructive). How beautiful it must be to soar over this breathtaking landscape with the Langkawi SkyCab!
ReplyDeleteAll the best,

Veronica - I will never tire of orchids! What a fascinating mono-cable car - looks a little scary! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous set of photos, Veronica! The San Francisco photo is lovely. The delicious food photos now made me really hungry :D

I've come to appreciate orchids more over the years. When we lived in Ecuador, I was amazed at the variety of orchids, from tiny tiny blooms to enormous ones. Yes, each one proclaims God's design. Cable cars are fun and make my heart beat a little faster.
ReplyDeleteThe problem I have is not being able to look after pot orchids. They either die or they grow too straggly and topple over. I need some lessons in horticulture.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving those fish dishes Veronica. Apart from mussels - they don't agree with me.
Mom sees orchids and is immediately taken to Hawaii in her head. They are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnother set of stunning photo, love the orchid, cockatoo and your beautiful smile. Hope you have a wonderful week ahead...
ReplyDelete...a wonderful collection, the food looks great!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular photos, Veronica!
ReplyDeleteThe orchids are beautiful. And the seafood looks very tasty.
Have a lovely week...
What a new fascinating story you prepared for us this time. I love that white bird.
ReplyDeleteI like all that history scenes, very interesting indeed! All the time you have flowers that I do not know. Always is a new challenge...
Thank you, Veronica for your new gallimaufry! Oh, I've started to love this word...
Happy WW and a beautiful week!
Now that's a fantastic way to catch a great view.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so interesting. The food - yes please...that cockatoo - i'd take it. And love the photos of 1990's when you were so young and cute I might add. Oh and the flowers ... !!
ReplyDeleteI really like cockatoos and orchids. I also liked the trishaw transport.
ReplyDeleteHave a fine day, Veronica! ♥
Oh I just love orchids; I had no idea there were so many varieties though! Your food photos look so tasty. I love the sky cab photos but I'm not sure I would have liked actually being in it as I don't really like heights. What interesting murals.
ReplyDeleteI love orchids also. I had no idea there were so many varieties also. I'm planning to buy a plant this year. I hope I can look after it correctly as they need special attention to survive.
ReplyDeleteNice photos.
Phenomenal photos ❤
ReplyDeleteHola Verónica, son muy bonitas las fotografías,desconocía que había tantas orquídeas, la comida está muy apetitosa.
ReplyDeleteQue tengas un buen día. Saludos
