Mr. Pery

Almost everyone I know already has and loves their air fryers.

But countertop space is prime real estate in my closet-size kitchen.

I have to think long and hard before I acquire a new appliance.

And more often than not, they were relegated to cabinets and drawers when the novelty ran out, occupying valuable storage space, gathering dust and getting in the way.

I think I had used my juicer a grand total of only 3 times before I bumped it into storage.

Naturally, I wasn't thrilled when I was gifted a bulky Pery Smith air fryer that squandered my precious countertop space.

I chalked the fangled appliance up to a glorified mini convection oven.

Anyways, I decided to give Mr. Pery a chance  a new gadget to play with, a new adventure in my uneventful life.

It has been 3 months since Mr. Pery came to us.

My boys and I use him just about every day now, even if it’s just to reheat leftovers or frozen foods.

Super crispy pizza straight from freezer to air fryer in 7 mins!

WHY I LOVE MR. PERY

1. He's easy to use and SO, SO simple to clean!

2. It's so easy to check if your food is cooked  simply pull out the fry basket, eyeball the doneness and push the fry basket back in to cook longer if needed.

3. It’s like deep frying with very little or no oil.
Crispy outside, moist inside

No more oil splatters! Ever experienced hot oil spitting, sputtering and exploding from your stovetop like fireworks on the Fourth of July?  Ouch! Not fun!

4. Cooking time is faster with Mr. Pery than a convectional oven.

I made ultra crispy pork crackling in under 3 hours that would otherwise require a whole bunch of steps  with a convectional oven. No overnight refrigeration, salt crusting or long roasting time! No vinegar or baking soda needed!  Plus, you don't have to line the sides of the meat with aluminum foil. Mr. Pery made it way too easy to do.

Thick pork chops cooked to perfection in under 10 mins on each side!

DOWNSIDE

1. Things fly around in an air fryer. Think AIR FLYER! I once placed a McD burger inside the fryer with  extra slices of cheddar in between the buns, expecting a perfectly molten cheese burger. Instead,  Mr. Pery disassembled the burger! The cheese came off the patty and melted into an icky mess and stuck to the fry basket! Later, I learned that securing the burger with a toothpick does the trick.

2. Wet, battered and loosely seasoned foods are a NO-NO!

So, is the air fryer just a load of hot air? Does the tiny fry-basket justify the space it takes on the counter??

Mr. Pery has really blown me away! Now, I can't imagine life without him.

An amazing air fryer recipe to share.

Did you hear that crunch?

  2. I hadn't heard of Mr. Pery :) It looks really cute and compact! Glad you are enjoying it! I bought an InstaPot in November 2019 and haven't used it once (I'm going to be selling it). Our son gave us an air fryer that Christmas of 2019 and we have used it once LOL. Trouble is we have limited counter space too so its hard to figure out how to have it set up and still have room for other things. If we could add 10 feet somehow to our counters all would be good :)

  3. I haven't heard of Mr. Pery, but I did buy a Ninja air fryer that I was so excited about, but now that it's here, I've been too intimidated to use it. Your post has encouraged me to give it a shot though. Happy New Year!

  4. Your writing is really entertaining, Veronica:) For me/us it would not be used much, because I avoid little bites of fried food. I love steamed veggies, dishes with sauces, boiled rice or potatoes. But I'm glad it makes you happy! Also thank you for sharing the use of it. There may be some at All Seasons who would like to try it out! A happy week to you, Jesh

  6. Agreed. I am hesitant on buying new kitchen gadgets and appliances.. but we bought an air fryer last year and most of the kids lunches are cooked in it.. fries also come out so perfectly.

  11. Very interesting Veronica. I too thought of this as a gimmicky gadget to extract money from gullible people. Seems I may be wrong. I'll put SWMBO onto this to investigate more but like you, room for more gadgets is a real consideration.

  12. How decadent! I need to get myself one of these. I would definitely clear off some counter space for it as well! :)

  13. Like you, I have been skeptical of air fryers. I have limited counter space too and I already have a toaster, coffee maker, and bread maker taking up valuable counter real estate. My nieces, however, LOVE their air fryers. Maybe I will ask for one for Mother's Day.

  14. I've seen ads for these ovens and think the same thing--A glorified confection oven. But that doesn't mean it's bad! I'm glad you gave it a try and discovered a new way for you to cook.
Personally, I use a toaster over that works quite well for cooking meals for just Hubby and me.

It's so great to see your link at 'My Corner of the World' this week!

  15. I also like Mr. Pery, but he hasn't arrived in Romania yet. :) It looks extremely practical and I see that it takes up little space. As for the food in the photos ... Mniam! ☺

  17. Good to know. I have been considering getting one but I’m not one for a lot of gadgets in my small kitchen.

  18. The food looks good, but I don't think I would make much use of it. Like you, most of my gadgets end up in the cupboard. The one I do use a lot is my soup maker.

  19. We have plenty of space for one of those fryers, but we don't know what we would need it for as Mom never fries anything and the microwave warms up stuff for us. Glad you are enjoying yours. We know tons of people love them.

  24. Great review! We have been thinking about getting one, but there is no room in the kitchen...I am rethinking now! Have a marvellously Happy Day!

  25. You had me convinced until you said no wet or battered food, so basically, if I want batter-fryed I have to put it in a regular fryer, hmmmm. Since we rarely fry food here, that may not be much of a drawback though. Thanks for the review, good info.

  26. I am glad you discovered something useful in our kitchen. Mr. Pery is doing his job in a very pleasant, easy and fun way.
And he looks quit ingenious, like a special decoration in that corner!
    Nice meeting your new friend!
Happy WW and a lot of imagination in creating your meals, Veronica!

  29. I have seen many people talk about air fryers over the last few months - & they seem to love them! You are so right about counter space easily being taken up by appliances, but it is great that you've found this one to be of such use.

  30. I was tempted to buy an air fryer that was in an infomercial the other day.$.200..I think it was Emeril lagasi..
I gave it some thought..reminded myself that I don't cook, have no space but I could probably get rid of my toaster/convection oven that I rarely use and put something new and shiny in its place..I think it was a little bigger though..Anyhow my comon sense won out..this time anyway..I guess we'll see.Have a good weekend..

  34. I don’t have an air fryer. I feel like I’m missing out. So many go on and on about theirs.

Last year it was insta pots.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I bought one for my mom. I've never used one. I do hate oil splatters though, and that alone would be worth giving up the counter space!

  36. I LOVE my air fryer. I too was skeptical, but I gave in and bought one during the shut down last year. It gets used almost daily and is much better than using the big oven.
