Cedric

My parents used to have a pug named Cedric. He was abandoned by his owners when they migrated to Canada.  My mom found him  in our neck of the woods when she was taking her daily evening stroll. Mom adopted Cedric. Dad lovingly nicknamed him "Ugly". Cedric was kinda ugly in a beautiful sort of way.

I hate people who dump their pets when they move. It breaks my heart. Poor Cedric! He pined for his owners ever single day. Each time Mom opened the gate, Cedric would run to the house of his previous owners and wait there until Mom called for him. He returned to the empty house daily, faithful, loyal and resolute, awaiting his master's return.

Cedric lived with my parents for a good five years before he succumbed to cancer. I dread to think what might have been if Mom hadn't rescued him. God bless my mom!

Sharing this short, poignant Hungarian film with an impactive message about abandonment.

There is a twist. The ending really hits and I had to watch it a second time before I got it. I was wondering what kind of a man could leave his child behind until I realized she was .........

  1. Cedric sounded like such a nice dog. So glad your mom gave him a home! I too hate when people abandon their pets when they move. That happened a lot in a city I lived in. When the economy crashed a few years back, a lot of people lost their houses in this particular community. They would move away and leave the dogs, often the dogs were pit bulls. I guess they figured it was better to leave them than take them to the animal shelter? I could never figure that out. One time Koda and me were walking and I saw this car drive by and then a minute later it came back speeding next to me and stopped. Of course I panicked just a bit but the lady rolled down her window and said there were 3 pit bulls ahead and she didn't want us walking that way so she offered to take us back home. Her husband wasn't happy because it was leather seats in the car but we were only about 2 blocks from home. I was so grateful to God for our safety; not sure what would have happened if we kept walking.

Such cute cookies in memory of Cedric :)

  3. Oh, how nice of your mom to take him in! I think I would have done the same thing. And to think what a good life he had until the end. He was sure a lucky little guy. So sad, though, that he missed his lousy family so much.

On another note: I appreciate your comment on my blog the other day. I guess what we are going through is not uncommon...but still...it is unsettling. I'm crabby, I'm crying, I'm laughing....all the time! It's so weird. I cry so easily that it is silly. So, I laugh and cry at the same time now. Ugh. I guess this will pass, but it sure helps to know that I am not losing it, but share this with others.

I think you need to come visit me. That is the only solution!

  13. So that video made me cry :(. I can't stand how some people treat animals..you wouldn't leave a child in the woods because they were a bit hard work,a dog shouldn't be any different. Your mum is a wonderful lady for taking in Cedric, so sad he missed his old owners when they didn't care enough to take him with them. Those cookies are amazing by the way xx #KCACOLS

  14. Those cookies are so adorable! It's so sad to think about Cedric being just left out there on his own. I don't understand why people just abandon their pets when there are so many shelters that will take them in. x #KCACOLS

  19. Thats so sweet of her!! My dog is a street dog, I found her when she was about 3 weeks old so I don't think she even had survived otherwise.. Same thing with both our cats, I just can't walk by when I see an animal in need!
