My google reader had 0 items for the past couples of days and I was clueless about the bad news until I visited Katherine's blog today and learned that as of March 1, 2012, Google Friend Connect (GFC) will be discontinued for non-Blogger sites.
Here's the excerpt.

So how are you taking the news?
I don't know, part of me is nervous for it because I don't want to lose any readers - but at the same time, I suppose out with the old, in with the new, huh? I was thinking of doing a post asking my GFC readers to subscribe to my RSS feed (I'm not sold on Google+ Circles!). *sigh* I will miss seeing those faces on my sidebar though... :-)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea! Does that mean that all of my followers will disappear?
ReplyDeletecrazy huh??? i'm not sure what i will do to keep up with my bloggy pals... trying to review all the suggestions.
ReplyDeleteThat's not fair. I'll tell my followers to subscribe to my blog in a reader. It can still be connected to google that way!
ReplyDeleteI find it very frustrating, but I suppose I will adapt lol.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I was just getting around to setting all that up on my new-ish blog! On the other hand, thank goodness I hadn't already set it up! Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am on Blogger still. I think I would be ok with it being gone, although I wonder what will the advertisers use to gaged a site now?
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I never thought of GFC being on non-blogger sites. I guess I never paid attention.

I'm so upset! I just participated in 2 huge giveaways and went from 139 followers to well over 300. I built it on purpose because I know that's what marketers look at. This stinks!
