With Spring in the air, scrolling down Google Reader is like taking a stroll in a botanical garden as I'm greeted by the vibrant images of gardens and flowers in all their glory. I thought this would be a great opportunity to share with you some of the pictures of our local flowers that are commonly found in most Malaysian gardens.
I sucked in Biology! Sorry, if I can't identify the names of some of the flowers.
*Bunga means flower in Malay
Bunga orkid (Orchids)
Bunga Kemboja
The tailflower
Bunga jejarum (Ixora)
The Bunga Raya ( Hibiscus) is our national flower
Bunga tahi ayam ( chicken poop flower) - it kinda stinks like chicken poop!
Spider Lily
Bunga Kertas - Bougainvilleas
Flowers in the highlands
Funny, "bunga" means fruit in Tagalog. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember the many varieties of orchids that we saw in Malaysia. I wish that we could have brought some home.
Veronica, I LOVE flowers. And those my friend are beautiful. Sad soemthing that looks so beautiful could smell like chicken poop. LOL
ReplyDeleteI like it anyway. I have a flower or rather a flowering bush (looks like tiny daisies) and it smells like "BUTT" on a rainy day. Soon as it rains, all you smell on my front porch is BUTT. Daniel so affectionately calls it "ass"
Mommmmmmm it reeks like ass on the front porch. what the heck!
It's then I answer... you sure you wiped?
Gorgeous! My mom loves orchids!
ReplyDeleteI only have the silk ones from Bombay!
"Bulaklak" is the Filipino for flower;
And these are "maganda" (beautiful)!
Keep smiling =D
After six days of rain, I'm happy to find something bright and colorful to look at! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour 'bungas' are just breathtaking:) What is the plural of bunga? I just added an 's'!

ReplyDeleteI love those flowers. Thanks for sharing this beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteThe chicken poop flowers look a lot like lantana - they don't smell particularly nice either, maybe they're related!
ReplyDeleteSurely, the plural of bunga must be bungee.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. While scrolling down I got to the little pink and yellow flowers and thought they were my favorite...until I read that they're called the chicken poop flower! I'm rethinking my choice!
ReplyDeletethanks for dropping by! beautiful flowers and i recognize some of them as local in my country too. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers' Day to you, too, Veronica. Wow, seeing these flowers is like seeing those that are in our garden. I live in the Philippines so I guess we have the same flora species.
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog, as always.
Althea
