Just a gallimaufry of AI-generated photos, real photos and ramblings 📸

THE STANDOFF IN THE YARD: A TALE OF COURAGE AND CHANGE

In the bustling yard of my childhood home, a peculiar friendship flourished between our pet dog, Poochie, and one of our hens. Despite their differences, they shared a bowl and roamed together. Poochie was always chasing the hens and chicks. But there came a day when the hen, tired of being relentlessly chased by Poochie, decided enough was enough. With a sudden change of heart, she halted, turned around, and began chasing the surprised dog instead. With tail tucked between his legs, Poochie beat a hasty retreat, never daring to chase the hen again. It was a showdown that left us all amused and taught us never to underestimate the feistiness of a determined hen.

Let this be a lesson in life for us that sometimes we have to stand our ground and show courage in the face of adversity. Just like the hen who decided to confront Poochie, we too can find strength within ourselves to face challenges head-on, no matter how daunting they may seem. It’s a reminder that even when we feel chased by life’s troubles, turning around and facing them can lead to newfound respect and peace.

"Facing it, always facing it, that's the way to get through. Face it." - Joseph Conrad

My son's girlfriend gifted me this beautiful crocheted bag.
With a wink, she told me she got it from a very talented mouse named Maisie.
Meet Maisie.
Maisie crafted the bag with her nimble paws and magical touch.

FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES

Belgium is waffle heaven!

In the lowlands of Malaysia, mist is a rare and mysterious visitor, typically gracing the highlands with its ethereal presence.
For those of us who dwell in the lowlands and are accustomed to sunny, clear, blue skies, the phenomenon transforms the familiar landscape into a realm of enigma.
Not sure why, but mist spooks me and sends a chill down my spine, perhaps because it evokes the eerie, suspenseful atmospheres often seen in horror movies, where danger lurks in the dense, swirling fog.

When I see mist, it conjures echoes of the haunting X-Files theme song.

But on a clear day, when the mice aren't spooked, a qiqong class takes place beneath the watchful gaze of the stone lions.

  4. My auntie kept hens in her back yard. The toilet was outside and the hens used to chase me and peck at my legs, horror! The photos are all fabulous! Hugs!

  5. Dearest Veronica,
That childhood story of the chicken and the puppy is lovely and indeed, facing it is a good quote!
You sure got gifted a lovely sunflower bag by your son's girlfriend!
WISH mice could perform such work...
Chinese dinner looks always inviting and no doubt tastes yummy.
As for Belgian waffles, yes they are world famous and everyone seems to like them.
Oh, when living and working in Indonesia at an altitude of 2,000+ m we always saw fog when going back down around 11:00 AM. Early morning at 6:00 AM it was paradise like and so clear! Pieter and I had the most scary trip of our lifetime when we did go up the mountains one night at midnight, with our driver. We were not even half way when regretting what we'd started! It was for checking on the night crew as we both were suspicious. The driver had to drive with his head out of the window as we passed those curves without any guardrail... We ended up at the top and yes, caught the 'satpam' asleep and also no temperature charts got filled in. Now we knew that they would do that in the morning, all at once and according to the theoretic ideal situation!
It sure felt good for having discovered that but we both would never ever attempt to drive in heavy fog again!!!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  11. What you're doing is cute and creative and fun, but I do worry about the possible misuse of AI technology. Everything we see can be "smoke and mirrors"!

  22. Ooooo, I like that crocheted bag, it's so cheerful and cute. The "facing it" quote is special, and sometimes harder said than done. I enjoyed the story of the hen and the pup. I wish more people stood their ground and trusted their own thoughts, instead of being influenced so easily. Those Belgium waffles look amazing. The one with the chocolate drizzling on it makes me want one! Your posts are always delightful, and it was good to see a picture of you today!

  25. Challenges can be so scary, but if you dare to try to beat the challenge, you can and will win, and you will feel so good about yourself for it.

  26. Dear Veronica,
that's a beautiful story about a hen and a dog! By the way, I always face my problems or opponents... which is sometimes good and sometimes causes more problems. But it makes my life authentic. The crochet bag is a work of art - how cute, the mice too! Oh, and I would really like to buy a strawberry waffle from the waffle mouse - delicious!
Fog can be frightening, but also wonderful. Many years ago I was on a mountain covered in thick fog. Here I experienced (for the only time in my life) what TRUE silence is. I enjoyed it very much and will never forget ist.
    All the best, Traude

  32. Hello!

That animal story can indeed be transported to our own lives! Hold your head high and face life and its problems head on! And while we're on the subject of animals, we shouldn't do like the ostrich - stick our heads in the sand and not face our problems! The crochet bag is beautiful and the mice are cute! I love it! Hugs!

All the best and Happy WW! A fine July!❤️😘

  35. That bag is wonderful and she must think highly of you to have hand-made it. I had a student crochet me a bouquet of roses as an end-of-school-year gift. I keep meaning to feature it on WW, and then I forget to when the time comes. Maybe next week. :) And yes, facing adversity is never fun but it's the best way to have it move on. Have a happy rest of the week. :)
