Just a gallimaufry of photos ...

Golden-crowned crane
Legend has it that their golden crown feathers were a gift from an African king.
Here's how the story goes ...

One day, while hunting, the king became separated from his companions and was lost in the savanna.  Weak from the lack of water and food, he asked several types of passing animals if they would help him but all of them refused because he had hunted them and killed members of their clans before. Finally, a flock of cranes that was flying responded to the plea of the desperate king. They brought him water and then led him to his companions. As a reward, the grateful king ordered his goldsmith to make each crane a gold crown. The next day, the cranes appeared before the king with their bare heads and lamented that their crowns were stolen and destroyed by the other jealous animals. The king then had his court magician conjure up crowns of golden feathers that no one could ever take away.

  15. What a lovely post and love the history of the cranes. The photos of them spaced out, pandemic style is a hoot.

  16. That story reminds me of something in the Bible saying that stripes and spots had to deal with humans drawing them nearby the animals

DNA definitely doesn't work out that way

  17. Beautiful, just beautiful, but as usual I got stuck on all the delicious food. Wow.

Have a fabulous day and week, Veronica. ♥

  18. I've tried on three different blogs set up like yours and am unable to sign in to comment with my Google account, which is working just fine otherwise. I wonder why?

  19. The bird looks like he's really showing off how different he looks but that food looks really really good.

  20. Thanks for the background story on the golden-crowned crane and that signage was quite amusing too, Veronica Lee. I like spring rolls but a DIY would most likely end up as not being very pretty if I were to make it.
