Gallimaufry#96

Just a gallimaufry of photos 📸

AFTER THE RAIN 🍄
The weather has been getting increasingly erratic these days. It seems like every day the forecast changes—the heat is oppressively intense in the afternoon, and then it rains cats and dogs in the evening. And yet, there are individuals and groups who deny or dispute the scientific consensus on climate change..

Awe? Pride?
Merdeka 118
... when you just found out that a building you had passed by countless times is the second tallest in the world.

Nah, more like disapproval. I personally think that competing for the world's tallest building is an ego-driven endeavor. The money could be better spent on other pressing needs, such as healthcare, education, or social welfare. There is  a running joke that playfully suggests that each time Malaysia changes its Prime Minister, there is a new contender for the title of the world's tallest building in the works or under construction.

LunchNasi Goreng Pattaya
Nasi Goreng in Malay translates as fried rice, and Pattaya is a city in Thailand. However, Nasi Goreng Pattaya is not a traditional Thai dish but a Malaysian creation.
Essentially, it is just fried rice wrapped in an omelet.

Tower Vaults, Tower Hill Terrace, London  2011

Can you guess what this is?
It's an ugly sculpture of a zongzi (rice dumpling).
The tradition of making these dumplings dates back more than 2000 years!

Zongzi were traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, but these days they have become popular as street food and are available throughout the year in many places.More about the festival here

  5. Love zongzi. Those that we bought here (the states) were not good. Mom's were the best, what can I say? Great looking cookies! Haven't tried the Pattaya Fried Rice. Any good?

  9. I have no idea where this obsession with having the tallest building originates. I was going to say, “Who cares?”, but evidently some do. The dumplings look fantastic. I wish I had one for my breakfast this morning!

  12. What a great series of photos Sonjia.
    The food looks delicious again.
I don't understand why there are still people who deny climate change, you see it all around you, so many disasters have happened this summer throughout Europe, that is really not normal.
You are right there should not be built so high, give the money to other projects.
    Greetings Irma

  14. Hello,
I agree with you about money could be spent on more important things than having a super tall building. The rice wrapped in an omelet looks yummy. The Fall cookies are cute! Happy Sunday, have a wonderful week!

  16. ah, those cookies caught my eye immediately, Veronica! so lovely to look at with all their detail. it'd be a shame to devour them. maybe just a little nibble?!

  17. I read or saw someplace a thing about the world's tallest building. It seems that one can link a recession or depression to countries just after they achieve a tallest building. It's like they spend the money on the construction, and then the bottom falls out of their economies.

  18. Interesting that all 5 are in Asia. We have had two solid days of only rain and another two in the forecast.

  19. wow been too long since i was last here. I enjoyed the post and I love fried rice - would love to try that dish you posted. My husband makes great fried rice and he makes enough for me to eat it for three days or four days. Your cookies are so cute. What a talent.

  20. Hello Sonjia you have posted beautiful pictures again and yes the omelet with rice in it does make a nice presentation to serve it like that. And I certainly wouldn't have guessed that zongzi (rice ball) photo. We don't know that here either. And it's time again for the mushrooms and they don't care about the climate. Many people keep denying that the climate is getting worse but it is as Irma wrote. And i like you cookies too. Rest photos also beautiful. Wish you happy new week.

  24. Dearest Veronica,
Compliments for your cookie artistry! They look adorable—you are quite talented.
And the nasi goreng makes me mouth water. We always had it for breakfast while at a hotel in Indonesia. Also I've prepared it several times myself as we in The Netherlands have all the ingredients, spices, sauces from Conimex. Since we're no longer traveling through my birth country, that option is gone.
But always a pleasure to read your posts with class pictures.
Need to gain a lot from yesterday's weight of 41.5 kg!
    Try my very best.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    Wishing you a happy day!

  30. Those cookies look totally professional!~ Interesting about the world's tallest buildings. I had no idea. I thought the US had the tallest building. Who knew? I Learned something. Cute Cartoon about the polar bear.

  32. Did you make those adorable cookies Veronica? The cartoons made me laugh. Yes. I agree that I don't see the fascination with having the tallest building in the world, especially when more people are working from home and office space is empty.

  42. I always marvel at architectural feats like super tall buildings or unusual designs yet can not deny that your point is valid-- that money sure could be better spent elsewhere. I'm not generally an egg fan but I think I'd love that fried rice wrapped in an omelet.

  48. I agree with you regarding the tall buildings. It's an absurd competition. But it's not the only one. If this word will be replaced by cooperation the world will look different. I am not sure exactly how is obtain the fried rice. I'll check.
    Beautiful images, Veronica!
    Hugs and blessings! ❤️😘

  49. mmm.. some of your photos look delicious but I don't think I would like to eat those mushrooms.

  50. Dear Veronica, I support your critical words - both regarding climate change and its deniers and in connection with the tallest buildings. Unfortunately, this senseless megalomania or boasting is not limited to Malaysia but is a worldwide phenomenon.
What a great idea to wrap nasi goreng (which I love to eat) in an omelet - I would love to try that.
The sculpture of a zongzi is really EXTREMELY ugly. On the other hand the cookies with the bears (or are they lions?) and the pumpkins are really adorable.
    All the best, Traude
