Fun fact
In India, a murderer was put behind bars when the victim's pet parrot squealed on him. The police had no initial leads on the crime, until the parrot, named Hercule, provided the vital clue. The victim's husband picked up on the fact that whenever his nephew visited, the parrot would start screeching. It would even react when the nephew's name was mentioned in conversation. The family then informed the police and the suspect was taken into custody. Upon questioning, the nephew confessed to the crime.

Golden-crowned crane
Legend has it that their golden crown feathers were a gift from an African king.
Here's how the story goes ...

One day, while hunting, the king became separated from his companions and was lost in the savanna.  Weak from the lack of water and food, he asked several types of passing animals if they would help him but all of them refused because he had hunted them and killed members of their clans before. Finally, a flock of cranes that was flying responded to the plea of the desperate king. They brought him water and then led him to his companions. As a reward, the grateful king ordered his goldsmith to make each crane a gold crown. The next day, the cranes appeared before the king with their bare heads and lamented that their crowns were stolen and destroyed by the other jealous animals. The king then had his court magician conjure up crowns of golden feathers that no one could ever take away.
