Day 5—Pisa, Pierotucci Leather Factory and Padua
Porta Nuova
Souvenir stalls manned by foreigners lined the street leading to the Square of Miracles.
The iconic tower
The tilt of the tower was reduced from more than 5° to 3.5°. When we were there, only 45 visitors were allowed into the tower at a time.
Cathedrale di Pisa
No, we didn't do the cheesy forced perspective classic every tourist poses for, but we had a good laugh watching the others take photos of their buddies in weird positions—pushing, kicking, licking, or holding up the leaning tower! Everyone was jostling to try and get a shot lined up, only to have another tourist jump in and ruin the shot! 🤣
Fallen Angel
With his left arm and both legs severed, a missing head and broken wings, the sad angel lies half-buried in the lush, green lawn.
What a fascinating piece of art! One couldn't help but wonder about the cause of his fate.
Pierotucci leather factory
That is so exciting that you were able to go the top of the famous leaning tower of Pisa. Was it hard to stand and walk around when you were at the top?
ReplyDeleteAmazing architecture and history - I'd love to go to the top of the leaning tower - how wonderful you got to do it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had funny moments there. Pisa is surprising. Happy Tuesday, Veronica!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures of Pisa.
ReplyDeleteThat leaning tower is really beautiful, I've never been there.
You had a nice tour group, I think this trip has been very nice.
Greetings from Irma
Your photos from Pisa are wonderful, Veronica. The sad angle looks very sad.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Warm hugs.
Love the tower. The lasagna looks great
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tour, you had a nice group. Everyone looks happy. Love the views of the buildings, the Leaning tower of Pisa, the Fallen Angel does look sad. I like the cathedral, statue and the arch. Great photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy the day and the week ahead. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
ReplyDeleteI have climbed to the top of that tower! Never having been an angel, I am in no danger of falling!
ReplyDeleteAnother day filled with events! Beautiful architecture and I love that fallen angel..sad but beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJudee from Gluten Free A-Z Blog: Your photos came out great! Did you take them with a camera or your phone? I'll be doing a similar tour of Italy in May- you are getting me excited
ReplyDeleteThe town of Pisa and its leaning tower are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have heard of basil pesto lasagna or white sauce lasagna, but not of pumpkin lasagna. It seems good ... I will give it a try :-)
Great post!
I think I'd rather have a photo like the one you did with your family with the tower behind you than the typical joey ones! I've never heard of pumpkin lasagna either but it sounds really delicious. Pisa looks like a wonderful place to visit and an interesting town. I'm so glad you are taking us on your journey with you!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful photos from your continued time in Italy, Veronica! I was wondering, too, if people were allowed in the Tower of Pisa, and you answered that. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
what a beautiful vacation stop, i have never been. and to see the iconic leaning tower, so special!! your pictures capture the area well!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your photos! Interesting they are fixing the tilt of the leaning tower.

What a fabulous adventure and I would love to try that pumpkin lasagna. Looks most yummy.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. ♥
Pumpkin lasagna. Yum! What fun. I hope to see the tower someday.
ReplyDeleteLovely Pisa. Was already two times there. I love Toskana!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the beautiful tower. I wouldn't take one of those chessy photos either. :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous trip! Hard to get good shots without people when you visit iconic places; you managed quite a few actually!
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous day! I loved seeing the tower and definitely would not have been one of those people trying to take a forced perspective photo... that's just not me. It's beautiful and neat all on it's own.
ReplyDeleteAgain with the great pictures. I've never been there so it's really great to see the pictures.
ReplyDeleteHi Veronica! I feel lucky to have found your blog … and especially after you took your wonderful trip. Thank you so much for sharing all the photos. The leaning tower is just pretty amazing. 😊 I don’t know if I would have courage to go up to top and walk around! 😊 Congrats on Gallimaufry#67! John
ReplyDeletePS I don’t know if I can take my wife to the leather factory. She might blow up my credit card! 😊
ReplyDeleteI visited Pisa in the 70s when I was young and climbed up the tower. I doubt I could do it now that I'm old...lol! I love all your photos of it!
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see all three of you walking in our footsteps!
We were not allowed to enter the Pisa tower when we were there...
So you got lucky!
The leather factory was also a nice thing to explore and it made me realize my Pierro Erbacci bag from Florence came from that region: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2019/03/my-visit-to-castle-howard-minster-of.html
Fond memories for all of you and Padua was nice as well. Only my Pieter went to Padua and I've never visited...
Hugs,
Mariette
Such wonderful sights to see, WOW! I did not know that you could actually go up in the tower.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you really got to see the sights.
ReplyDeleteDelightful captures and captions!
ReplyDeleteEs un lugar tan hermoso . Siempre quise conocer la torre de PIsa Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post about Pisa, I love it! Here in Germany we say "schiefer Turm" to the Iconoic Tower,
ReplyDeletegreetings and Hugs

I too felt sorry for the angel. But he made for a very different photograph. The lasagna looks yummy (and authentic).

ReplyDeletewow i love the angle of fallen angel photo Kak Veronica...it's very artistic...
ReplyDeletethe design of pisa looks so great. Hopefully someday i can visit here...Have a nice Wednesday ^^
Lovely photos. The statue of the Fallen Angel wasn't there when we went so I looked it up. It is by a Polish artist and was placed in 2012. I also looked up when we were in Pisa and it is hard to believe it was as long ago as 2006!
ReplyDeleteI can not thank you enough for your gallimaufries with all these places I've never been. These monuments are so impressive, full of history and misteries!
ReplyDeleteAnd the factory is so interesting. Probably was a fabulous experience!
Never heard of 'pumpkin lasagna'. I'll shall explore the subject!
Thank you, Veronica!
Happy WW and many beautiful journeys!😘❤️
So many people everywhere would drive us nuts, but to see the leaning tower, it would be worth it.
ReplyDeleteOh so wonderful to get to see the tower.

ReplyDelete...Veronica, this was a trip of a lifetime, thank for taking me along.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great time. Lots of buildings and stuff to see. My sister and husband visited Pisa last summer and got some of the "holding up the tower" shots.
ReplyDeleteI miss Italy. Thank you. Regine
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
Wonderful pictures of an amazing place, I could almost smell the leather!
ReplyDeleteI love Pisa, and the architect was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'd try pumpkin lasagne, don't think I've had that before. There is so much history there, love the group photo - so many happy smiles.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos! So glad you took us along on your trip through the eye of your camera. Thanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/02/a-few-images-from-chinese-lantern.html

ReplyDeleteGracias por traerme tan buenos recuerdos de. Pasamos buenos días ahí. Preciosas fotos.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
I visited Pisa in 2007 and it was bustling with tourists like me. So I think we got photo bombed in all our pics.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try t h e pumpkin lasagna. I still think about the pistachio lasagna that I had during that trip to Italy.
Love your Gallimaufry. How exciting! Wow I just loved taking this virtual tour with you. I'm so happy you all had a wonderful time. Pumpkin Lasagna sounds fantastic.
ReplyDeleteVisiting today from IMM#159&160
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is certainly an amazing sight, Veronica Lee, and I was unaware that people were actually allowed in, even in limited numbers. The Fallen Angel is beautiful even in its demise. Also, the architecture of the other buildings was stunning. It was great to see you and your family and also the group shot of your fellow travelers, but it did look a bit chilly during your travels.
ReplyDeleteDid you take most of your photos with a cell phone or camera or a combination of both? We will be traveling this coming fall, and I plan to use a camera for most of my photo taking.
Dear Veronica,
ReplyDeleteI am very happy to see Pisa again. I first went there in May 1967 - that was the year I turned 6, but in May I was 5. And I got to go up that weird leaning tower with my parents. The next time I was there, my daughter was a toddler - and it was forbidden to go up the tower. In the meantime, as you wrote, they have corrected the reduction by a few degrees and it is allowed again, at least for 45 people at the same time. Have you been upstairs?
I don't know if the statue of the fallen angel existed at that time - at least I didn't notice it. I think it's beautiful. The fallen angel, that must be Lucifer, right? Or are there others who are fallen?
All the best, Traude

Extraordinary tour photos!!
ReplyDeleteI got a bit tearful with this post, my friend. My beloved Saint is Saint Anthony from Padua. He is very special to me. It was nice that you had some pumpkin lasagne in Padua. It looks delicious. You have had many wonderful adventures in your travels.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
You presented the Leaning Tower in an interesting way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delectable trip this!!!
ReplyDeleteYou and the familia look gorgeous.
Bless you all.
Happy V-day my sweet pea, Vero.
Hugs and kisses. xoxo
What a wonderful trip you are on. Love the pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe leaning tower is such an interesting structure. I had to take a Google break to see why it is leaning, haha.
The fallen angel looks pretty impressive even in its fallen state. I wonder what it looked like before it fell off the pedestal.
