Day 4 — Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre, which means Five Lands, comprises the five small coastal villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso located in the Italian region of Liguria. They are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
View from Manarola
Delightful little hamlets perch on hills and inlets cascading down to the sea.Layers of riotously pastel-colored houses cling to Cinque Terre's dramatic cliffs. It’s almost like a rainbow exploded and rained down on this part of Italy!
A nativity scene on top of a hill, steep, narrow stairways that lead to curious doors, bizarre sculptures, charming eateries, zig-zagging alleys, etc — so many hidden gems to discover!
Meandering through the maze of crooked, cobbled alleys lined with colorful houses and quaint hole-in-the-wall shops was fun!
We had lunch in this niche called "Lunch Box" in Vernazza.
Beautiful trip! I am enjoying your holiday pictures :)
ReplyDeleteWow!!!! Heaven of bread....i like that's looking so fresh and hot bread...Your vacation as always has an interesting story Kak Veronica...Hopefully someday i can visit here ^^

A beautiful part of the world 🌍 for sure. And wherever I go in the world I too have to buy the local breads and sweets.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great portfolio of your travel shots
ReplyDeleteThe pastel-coloured houses on the cliffs look so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLiguria always looks like the buildings were dropped from the sky and they just settled wherever they landed!
ReplyDeleteI've seen photos of the houses on the rocky cliffs but didn't know anything about them. Lovely photos and descriptions - I wouldn't like walking the stairs, too steep!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love the view of the colorful houses on the cliff, very picturesque village. I would like exploring the shops and restaurants. The bread and gelato sound yummy. Wonderful photos and a great trip. Take care, have a happy day!

Great report of that special part of my country! I wouldn't have thought of such narrow alleys in the historical part of Manarola. There is also a nice pedestrian area with cobblestones and shops. Thanks for sharing pictures of this particular part of Italy :-)
ReplyDeleteCreamy pesto gnocchi is typical of that Northern side of Italian peninsula. Glad to hear you enjoyed that meal!
Beautiful picture of you with your family close to the sea.
All the best, Veronica :-)
Judee from Gluten Free A-Z Blog: I'm really enjoying your photos from Italy. Todays photos are really colorful and such an interesting area.. I'll bet that gnocchi was amazing!
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed a very lovely area of Italy—both of us never made it to visit there... Working 6 days a week while living in Italy did not leave much time to explore.
Our friend and Lady Chef Maria from Bolzano, Italy knows how to prepare delicious Gnocchi.
Big hugs,
Mariette
What a beautiful place. I would love that view for a couple of week. Wow.

All those buildings clinging to the cliffs just looks like such a great place to live. I'm sure there are issues for the residents, but it looks from here like so much fun. What a great place to explore.
ReplyDeleteOooh, pally....I am so envious of your travels! Emma studied abroad in Italy for 6 months and this was her first stop. We all want to get to Italy one of these days! Looks AMAZING! (and so do you!)

ReplyDeleteOh, these charming pastel-colored houses look like the ones near the Santa Cruz area. They are high up on the hill, and the water surrounding is beautiful. Love the photo of the stairway. All the breads are wonderful, and the Creamy Pesto Gnocchi looks delicious. What a charming place this is. Looks like you are having a great time exploting.

Those pastel cliffside homes looked lovely, Veronica Lee, and when we travel to Amalfi, Italy, this coming September we may see some similar sights. I agree that exploring through shops and sampling local foods can be so enjoyable. Thanks for sharing more of your trip. Also, thanks for the 🎂 wishes.

Thank you for the armchair travel! I'd love to try the gnocchi and gelato!
ReplyDeleteJust an amazing place/s. Didn't know tourists were permitted to climb up those pathways. Certainly a beautiful views from up there. I wonder how the elderly walk or get down to the bottom to the road! Lovely photos, so enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place, fall of charm! Looks like you need good legs to get around there. Thanks for all the lovely photos!

ReplyDeleteStunning -- the little village perched on the hill is breathtaking -- so colorful .. I love it!! Those stairs! (I don't think we'd make it up these days).... The food looks wonderful too ... I only recently discovered gnocchi for cooking at home and we love it! (I buy the shelf-ready Italian made so hopefully it tastes a tiny bit like what it is supposed to when I cook it!)
ReplyDeleteYour photos, again, brought back ,memories to me, Veronica! We loved seeing Cinque Terra. We were able to do the walk between two towns on the hillside during our visit but I think a few years later there were bad rains and the path had a mudslide and closed
ReplyDeletewow, this seem to be a place I would love to explore :) Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love these pictures and the colors in this quaint, picturesque town. I have a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle that looks just like your top photo of Cinque Terre from Manarola.
ReplyDeleteYou and your family must be in great shape to have climbed all those stairs.
5 Terre and Liguria are wonderful places. My grandpa was born in Liguria. When I was in the Coast Guard I spent a couple of months in La Spezia (very close to the 5 Terre) Great photos.
