Kanom Jeen Nam Ya Pla (ขนมจีนน้ำยาปลา) is a classic Thai dish featuring soft, fermented rice noodles (kanom jeen) served with a rich and aromatic fish-based curry sauce (nam ya pla). The curry is typically made from blended fish, coconut milk, and a fragrant mix of herbs and spices such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, turmeric, and dried chilies. The result is a creamy, slightly spicy, and deeply flavorful sauce that pairs beautifully with the delicate noodles.
This dish is often garnished with fresh vegetables like bean sprouts, pickled mustard greens, cucumbers, and Thai basil, adding a refreshing contrast to the rich curry. It's a staple at Thai markets and home-cooked meals, loved for its comforting yet bold flavors. Some variations include Nam Ya Kati (a creamier version with extra coconut milk) and Nam Ya Pu (crab-based curry).

ReplyDeleteThose deer at the top are pretty amazing! I love curry, but have never heard of it with fish. I'm not a fish lover, so I'm sticking to chicken!

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that living on an empty stomach is not living! And I know what I'm talking about because I suffer from a lot of dietary restrictions! This dish looks as delicious as the photos of the mice in Florence!

Veronica, my sister and I had Thai food this week in a lovely, quiet restaurant to celebrate my Mom's birthday. If she was still with us, she would have been 95. I'm so grateful that she is in a far better, more peaceful place. So much to be thankful for ...
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the Tawny Coster butterfly is a beautiful touch too; what a lovely creature! And, of course, who can resist a kitty chilling on the curb? 😺 Those moments always bring a smile.
ReplyDeleteIt’s great to see such a variety of snapshots from your life, from food to nature to everyday little joys. Thanks for sharing!

The Thai dishes look scrumptious. One of my neighbours also still has their lighted reindeer outdoor decorations outside.

The food looks yum. The Florence Duomo is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow the Thai food looks so good! I will have to try that next time we go out for Thai! So funny to see the Christmas decorations still up. I was on a walk this weekend and noticed some Christmas lights still up in our area too haha. I have been trying to spend more time outside as we are having some mold removal done in our home. It has been good to get some fresh air! So fun hearing about what you've been up to!
ReplyDeleteLovely mix of art, critters and nature!
