Autogrill Sebino Nord |
Autogrill Chianti
Autogrills are nothing like the rest stops I know in my corner of the world — these are true-blue restaurants! It's kinda like restaurant meets convenience store meets Italian grocer.
The range of breads, pizzas, focaccia, brioche, and croissants in Italy is overwhelming. It is a little known fact that over 350 types of bread originate from across Italy.
- Italy has more rest stops than any other country in Europe.
- You only have to drive about 27 km on average from one Autogrill to another.
- There are over 600 Autogrills in Italy.
We don't have those here...interesting!
ReplyDeleteThe food looks great. I'm sure it's a nice place to stop.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day, Veronica,
Many hugs.
These all look great. The motorway rest places here are only places I woud use in an emergency, they are not good! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThat's true: we have a lot of Autogrills along our motorways. 😄
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteA lot has changed since we lived and worked there in 1989 but those Autogrills are a very clever concept!
The enormous variety they offer to the tourists passing through is unique.
You managed to capture that in an excellent rapportage.
Hugs,
Mariette
very nice places! have a great day, Veronica! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice places...Thanks for your sharing...
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for sure, you won't go hungry when you stop there! That is a wide variety of food. Looks like they have added a whole new dimension to a standard highway stop.
ReplyDeleteHello :=),
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed that there so many rest stops, but the food looks good and varied.
Have a nice weekend. :=)
The Autogrill photos are so tantalizing, Veronica. Thanks for sharing them and the fun facts about this restaurant chain. I really got a kick out of the Wild West one - lol!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
How interesting. I think I would be in bread heaven there, I do love bread.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you are still writing a post about your holiday in Italy, Veronica. You mentioned Autogrill, which is listed on the Milan Stock exchange. Autogrill is controlled by Dufry AG, which is a Switzerland-based retail company engaged in the travel retail sector.
ReplyDeleteEasy to see you and your family enjoyed the typical Italian food served by Autogrill :-) thank you for sharing such info!
Have a nice weekend!
Lots of options for getting a bite to eat. Nice photos and thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteThe array of food choices looks amazing and delicious too! So glad places like this still exist today! TFS!
ReplyDeleteThat's a new one on me. Cool, though. I wouldn't mind stopping at those rest stops along the highway.
ReplyDeleteI remember eating at Autogriils when I was in Italy in 2007. Their food is waaaay better than the fast food joints at our rest stops.
ReplyDeleteWOW, the food sure looks delicious and that's an amazing variety!
ReplyDeleteWow! I've never heard of these, but they are incredible!
ReplyDeleteU me gustaría conocerlo parece un genial restaurante. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteWow, I guess that I ama going to have to book a trip to Italy just to try out their Autogrills. What a spread of food they have.
ReplyDeleteI know for sure I wouldn't get much sight seeing done with these establishments all over Italy!!!
ReplyDeletegreat foods.... interesting place
ReplyDeleteWhat a great array of food choices there are at Autogrill! Nothing like that here, and it's so much better than the typical fast food places. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletewow! this is really a variety! and 27km between two of them? that is incredible.
ReplyDeleteAll those rest stops make it sound like the kind of country we should visit at our age (LOL)!!! The Autogrill chain restaurants sound like ideal stopping places for people on a roadtrip too (not kidding about that!). Thanks for sharing this interesting part of your travels... I like seeing the historical and beautiful that you've showed in other posts of course, but it is fun to see the ordinary every day sort of thing also! (just like when we travel).
ReplyDeleteSo much good food in Italy! The pizza looks delicious. I hope I can travel to Italy someday. What a life experience you have had, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely and peaceful weekend.

The amazing variety of delicious food choices is truly remarkable. This post made me really hungry :)).
ReplyDeleteHello, Veronica
ReplyDeleteIt is great to have this Autogrill for your rest stop. The food choices look great, I would be happy with any the items, looks convenient and fast. Traveling in Italy sounds wonderful. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy day and great new week. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Who knew that Italy was such a haven for travelers with the Autogrill and that Old West sign was fun to see, Veronica Lee. The amount and variety of foods was amazing and certainly I would stop at one of these given the chance.
ReplyDeleteBuon inizio settimana.
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks like a great place to stop for a bite to eat - and such a variety to choose from!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/03/gods-glory-all-around-us.html
I remember that on our tours of Italy. The food was tasty. Wonderful photos! Brought back memories!
ReplyDeleteHad never heard of an Autogrill. Interesting and a nice selection of food.
ReplyDeleteWow I have not been to one of those don't think we have them here looks impressive what fab choices :-)
ReplyDeleteHave an Autogrilltastic week 👍
I could only dream of a rest stop serving up fresh Italian style pizza while driving through California or the rest of the southwest. That kind of food would make a road trip extra tasty for sure!
ReplyDeleteStop it Veronica, you're making me very hungry! I am a serious fan of bread, a product I always search out for local varieties during our trips abroad. At the moment our local baker is selling a seriously good and crusty spelt and honey loaf.
ReplyDeleteI wish the rest stops in the US were only half as nice as the Italian - fresh good food and so many other delights.
ReplyDeleteDear Veronica, when I just read your headline and saw the first photo, I was amazed: "Well, is there also "Autogrill" in Malaysia???!" But I quickly recognized my mistake 😉.
ReplyDeleteOf course I know these restaurants from our trips to Italy, but we haven't been to one for a long time. Years ago they were rather uncomfortable and didn't offer a very interesting range of dishes. We Austrians are a bit of snobs, because we have such particularly good motorway restaurants ourselves - but as I can see from your photos, in Italy they are now trying very hard and it looks really delicious in the Autogrill. Good to know when we come back to our neighboring country Italy.
All the best, a happy end of March and a good start into April!
Hugs, Traude 😘

All the food looks delicious and the restaurants very clean. Much better than our motorway service stations.
ReplyDeleteHere we have "Food-and-Tank-Stopps" but not so many and so often at the highway ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wish you a nice April and sent best wishes from Germany
Kirsi
have a great day! :)
ReplyDeleteI guess they like their food in Italy. It doesn't really look like a health food chain, though.
ReplyDelete...they sure looks like the US to me. Take care and enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteAll the time I see here something interesting! Anyway I did not know about 'Autogrill'. So much food! Spectacular images with all these products.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Veronica for this presentation!
Happy WW and a fine week! 😘❤️
when a person is tired, after many hours of driving or sitting in the car, it is good to have a break and a delicious meal, followed by a refreshing coffee. Everything looks appetizing!
ReplyDeleteOnly good Veronika dear! ♥
What a fun place. Way cool and you know how much I love food.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
