Just a gallimaufry of photos ...
I spy something green starting with T ...
In Hindu mythology, the earth is supported by four elephants standing on the back of a turtle. The Hindu deity Vishnu was reincarnated as the turtle Kachhapa that carried the weight of the world on its back.🐢
FUN FACT
The housefly hums in the key of F. The common housefly, although it lacks vocal cords, hums by flapping its wings about 190 times per second. We don't hear the individual flaps, but a low level humming noise in the key of F major.FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES

MYTH BUSTER
Simply heating alcohol, or any other cooking liquid, does not make it evaporate as quickly as rum cake in an AA meeting. The food has to be cooked for about 3 hours to fully remove all traces of alcohol. A study from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Nutrient Data lab confirmed this and added that food baked or simmered in alcohol for 15 minutes still retains 40 percent of the alcohol. After an hour of cooking, 25 percent of the alcohol remains, and even after two and a half hours, there's still 5 percent of it.
Spotted behind the cash counter of a Hainanese chicken rice restaurant.
Hi Veronica! As always, your photos are gorgeous. I love the look of the food, it makes me feel hungry! I was fascinated by the Hindu mythology of the four elephants standing on the back of a turtle and holding the world. I will look up more information about that. And we have a small shop that sells original Brussels chocolates, sometimes we have a coffee there and just one praline to go with it, yummy! Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sharing, have a great day...
ReplyDeleteI have the same Asters in my garden in Finland. Amazing! 😄😄
ReplyDeleteThe Asters are very beautiful. Here they will soon bloom in my garden. Scary photo of the dragon! :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead, Veronica!
I will never look at a housefly in the same way again!
ReplyDeleteThe last pict (hainan chicken rice looks very tasty...i like the skin chicken that cooked very well..
ReplyDeleteabout the flower...it's my first time to see purple aster.
Nice photos...
That prop grabs the attention
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteHaha, that open mouth made me think of my upcoming teeth cleaning appointment...
Exceptional housefly photo!
Chocolatier Délices Du Roy looks tempting and no doubt they are selling my favorite dark chocolate; something that I NEVER will give up.
And then all the tempting food, especially the fish...
Big hugs,
Mariette
I always love your photos. They are so clear and vivid. The asters are so beautiful and one of my favorite flowers . The turtle is in its habitat is wonderful but the pic of the house fly is quite extraordinary. He almost posed for you.
ReplyDeleteI would have to go to that chocolate shop! That was interesting about alcohol cooking out of food. I didn't know a lot of that info :) Have a great day, Veronica!
ReplyDeletebetty
The dragon prop is so cool. I love dragons. The food once again looks really good. I love purple flowers. They are my favorite color for flowers.
ReplyDeletecool to see the turtle :)
ReplyDeleteGood to know about alcohol not boiling off. I don't generally partake, but now I know not to.
ReplyDeleteI like how Terry Pratchett adopted the idea of the world on the back of four elephants on the back of a turtle for his Discworld. I suppose that's cultural appropriation, though, and should be frowned on.
Those big teeth are scary. As it is Spring here we are seeing a lot more flowers blooming but I'm not looking forward to flies in Summer.
ReplyDeleteLindas flores . Me gusto la torutfa y me dio ganas de probar tofu. Te mando un beso.

How lovely to see those colorful asters - they are my birth flower. I would probably get lost in the chocolate store and never be seen again if we had one like that around here - hah! Those teeth!! I don't think I'd be watching that movie as I scare too easily LOL Great photos of everything as always, thanks for sharing them. Now I think I will go snag a little piece of chocolate :) Have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI love the Dragon, scary.
ReplyDeleteHuuuu, dear Veronica, that mouth is really scary! Luckily the creature isn't real! Today I learned a lot from you again: for example that the housefly hums in the key of F or that alcohol boils away so slowly. As always, your food photos whet my appetite!
ReplyDeleteAll the best in September

Those braised ribs look delicious, and the chocolatier, and the rest of it. The asters look great. That prop is pretty scary.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that dragon was just a prop, those big teeth were going to chomp down on all that yummy food!
ReplyDeleteI would love to come visit and eat one of these delicious meals with you. They all look so good, especially those pork ribs. The candy shop in Brussels looks charming. Would love browsing in there. That's a great photo of the house fly. They are pesky things though, aren't they? Don't like them in my house. What a fun dragon for the people to see. You always have delightful posts, and I enjoy them each time.

**I have a dreadful fear of mice and rats, and was just wondering about your blog name, and why you named it that? Just curious. ; )
That dragon is so neat! I love the photos of the turtles too; we used to have a small painted turtle as a pet.
ReplyDeleteFab photos love the mouth capture it would devour all that lovely food in a few seconds heheh!
ReplyDeleteHave a gallimaufrytastic week
In the first mosaic I must say the sight of all those teeth was quite jarring with the lovelies of nature. Glad to know it's a prop. Lovely collages of life, food, and nature. Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day. Regine

lol. throught all that food in the mouth of the drageon to keep it busy!
ReplyDeleteYikes, your photo from the House of Dragons was truly spectacular and scary! Also, that photo of the drunken chicken is making me want dinner early today... YUM!
ReplyDeleteGreat dragon mouth photos. You had us wondering until we got to the part where you said what it was. Interesting about the house fly, but we still dislike them.
ReplyDelete...the asters are a favorite, the dragon is not!
ReplyDeleteWhat a dragon! I'm glad is not... alive!
ReplyDeleteNice images, as usual, but that flowers are amazing and the turtle.
Thank you, Veronica. Happy WW and a fine week!
Beautiful, but I got stuck on the food. Oh the food.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
That food looks rather yummy Veronica. I do like slow cooked food but rarely add alcohol, even less so now I read your information. perhaps a drop or two of brandy in a beef stroganoff is OK though?
ReplyDeleteI glad that is a movie prop - what a terrifying sight that would be in real life!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2022/09/the-next-generation.html
Beautiful asters, and delicious looking food. That was news to me about alcohol not burning off quickly. It does add another layer of flavour to a dish, though.
ReplyDeleteFrom scary photo to yummy food, there are really interesting facts that you have shared......
ReplyDeleteFascinating post, very enjoyable each and every photo, and a good read too. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThe House of Dragons prop has quite the set of teeth on it!! :) Here to wish you a happy Wednesday. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the fly and the turtle and the myth. I have wondered about the frequency of bee wings myself and even started to record some bees. I never followed through, though.
ReplyDeleteYou really have to tell Food Network about cooking with alcohol. They keep telling us the myth about it.
Hainanese Chicken was such a personal favourite back when we lived in Singapore. Oh! missing it so very much now. And those cucumber slices that go with it.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks drool worthy. And Mr T very happy basing in the sun.
Thanks for reminding me, Vero of the Hindu mythology around earth, tortoise and elephants.
Sending you big love and hugs dearest. <3
aww... scary mouth of Dragon....
ReplyDeletea lot of delicious foods... love tofu... yummy
Those are fearsome looking teeth on the dragon! The food looks good.
ReplyDeletethank for stopping by today. My husband named me the MASsnapper because I take photos like yours. of anything from flies to dinosaurs to food. super delish look food and I did not know the info about the fly, but do know their hum drives me nuts as does mosquito humming
ReplyDeleteDinner looks delicious, Veronica Lee, what time should we come? Interesting info about the house fly, Hindu mythology and cooking in wine. The prop was fun and menacing too.
ReplyDeleteOur young daughter is a great dragon fan - this house she will like! The story from the hindu mythologie about the earth - thank you for this interesting information,
ReplyDeletegreetings Kirsi
oh the teeth on that dragon! scary!
ReplyDeleteHainanes chicken rice is very famous. I love it, too.
ReplyDeleteHello, All the food looks appetizing, and I learnt about the slow cooking of food with alcohol. It's usually added to tenderise whatever is cooking, but not really necessary if one allows enough time to slow cook it. Anyway I never use wine. but prefer mine in a glass! :=) The Fly information is very interesting, and the Dragon looks fierce. I well remember visiting those chocolate shops in Brussels, and those cholates were so delicious. Lovely photos and a good read.
