Question
What if the groom can’t make it all the way up the 99 steps? Wouldn’t that feel ominous — as if the marriage were doomed before it even begins?
I have to admit, I was already huffing and panting about a quarter of the way up those steps—and I wasn't even carrying anyone! That certainly gave me a new appreciation for the grooms who take on this tradition.
But legends are symbolic, not literal. The climb is meant to show devotion, not predict destiny. Even if the steps prove too steep, love isn’t measured in stone stairways — it’s measured in patience, laughter, and the willingness to keep climbing together in life.
The Groom need to have a good back! 😄

ReplyDeleteOh my! That is quite a difficult feat. I remember laughing just having my husband trying to carry me over the threshold. It doesn't help that wedding dresses and their skirts/beads/etc. weigh a good amount too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a challenge for sure. Beautiful thought but man... I would feel bad if my husband had to try to carry me. Well, now after almost 30 years he would not make it. HAHA! My size done change quite a lot. HAHAH.

ReplyDeleteThe grooms must be healthy and strong to carry the bride up this long staircase, while the bride must be small and slender.
ReplyDeleteI see this a creating an incentive for the groom to try to pressure the bride into losing weight, thus fueling marital strife.

I think there should be a new tradition and the bride and groom should hold hands walking up the steps together in perfect harmony! If a couple chooses the old way, that's okay too!

ReplyDeleteThat would be tough! Was this the island in Lake Bled in Slovenia? We meant to go there at the end of our Croatia trip, but the forecast was 14C and raining, so we stayed on a Croatian island instead, which was much warmer!
