NOSTALGIA

FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES

Etruria Tasting Shop in Fabro
Etruria Srl via Monte Bianco

MUST-BUYS

Limoncello
Salsa Tartufata
And you can't leave Italy without one of these.
Father's Day dinner

Key lime pie, stone crab, Cuban sandwich, fried gator bites, conch?

Nope, none of the above iconic Floridian eats appeared on the menu.

Instead, they had "chicken chop", which, by the way, is a Malaysian/Singaporean dish!

Interestingly, I learned from a friend who travels extensively that there is no such thing as a "chicken chop" on the menu in the restaurants of western countries in which he dined abroad. Chicken Chop is actually a homegrown "western food".

Is Chicken Chop on the menu in restaurants in your corner of the world?

  16. If Chicken Chop is fried or roasted chicken breast than it is very common in Austria. Have a nice day :)

  17. I've never heard of the name "Chicken Chop" but I'm sure it has a name here and is probably very popular, I'll have to look into it.

  18. I do not know what a chicken chop is. We have so much "foreign" cuisine that was actually first made in the U.S., so it does not surprise me that you'd have "western" food that isn't.

  24. Limoncello is a wonderful drink especially enjoyed after a meal. That said, we have only had it a couple of times, but when we visit Italy in Sept we plan to enjoy it there. The wooden Pinocchio might be a must-have for some visitors, but I will pass. As for chicken chop, when we lived in VA, a popular southern dish was always fried chicken steak and maybe it's similar. As for the dinner at the Florida restaurant, I would have preferred a choice of Key lime pie, stone crab, and Cuban sandwich, but could skip the conch.

  29. I smiled when I saw the wooden fellow. I have that same item (call him Pinnochio), and he comes out at Christmas. The limoncello looks refreshingly good. I've always wanted to try it. I've never heard of chicken chop, but I have heard of chicken fried steak. The meals you share always make me hungry. And you have traveled to the most wonderful places. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your journeys with us.
