My son Josh was born 2 weeks earlier than his due date.
It was an induced labour as my doctor established that Josh was safer outside my body than inside my womb as I had complications during the pregnancy and because of my history of miscarriages.

When Josh was delivered, he was no bigger than our family cat!
He looked so tiny and frail!
And I would burst into tears each time I looked at him!
I had a bad case of post-partum blues and I just couldn't bring myself to bathe my precious baby.
I was terrified of hurting my little bubbaleh — he looked so fragile!
The hubs would bathe him every morning before he left for his office.
I only started to bathe Josh when I got over my fear and anxiety after the 4th month of his birth.
This video of a Vietnamese soon-to-be grandpa teaching his son and daughter-in-law how to bathe a newborn made me smile!
I hope that Josh grew into a big strong boy. I remember bathing my daughter when she was just a baby. She was quite happy to be in the warm water, but not quite as gleeful when it came time to wash her hair!
ReplyDeleteI remember everything about having a newborn was scary! I wasn't raised around babies, so I had no idea what to do for them. So, me and my newborn baby learned together. He cried, I cried....we figured it out. It's amazing that these kids survive us!

Such a cute video of washing a cat (baby). Read your story you shared about Josh from back in 2008. So glad all worked out and he "made" it and is alive today :) I remember when we adopted our daughter at 12 months that I was glad she wasn't a newborn because I thought I could possibly "kill her" because I wasn't experienced with this mom thing. It got better when we adopted her brother 3.5 years later at 6 days old. Both survived and are thriving at 35 and 31 years old :)

Your story of childbirth was a harrowing one; a struggle that had such a wonderful ending. The cat video is precious. I have never had the pleasure of a cat so agreeable to being on its back. Almost surreal :)

My youngest was delivered 2 weeks early but thankfully for me it was an easy delivery and he was already so big, I am kind of wondering how big he would have been full term (he was 9 pounds!). What a sweet memory. I had no idea what to do with a baby when Valerie was born. I gave her somewhat of her first bath in a plastic baby tub as best as I could on Christmas Eve, 2004! She was 3 days old.

My oldest daughter was 2 weeks early as well and was induced also. My youngest was born 6 weeks early and only weighed just over 4 pounds when we brought her home. I understand what you mean about being nervous.

ReplyDeleteI had some blues as well. Not super long lasting. I was freaked out about the boy's illnesses. Mica had a super bug staff infection in his neck at 7 months, and Isaak had meningitis at 2 months. Mica was also born with a cyst under his tongue. It made it hard for him to breastfeed. I'm glad I stuck with it. His tongue did develop more. Now just the line isn't totally centered. They were pretty healthy otherwise. Mica has to deal with scoliosis. But otherwise minor things.

Hello Girlfriend, Your video at the end was awesome & my hubby & I laughed our butts off to say the least!!! The soon-to-be grandpa showing how to do a newborn's bath was oh so funny to say the least too! Good one! So, you have a new baby? Do I get to see a picture soon? I sure hope so. Who does he look like so far??? I cannot wait to see this adorable baby I'm sure! You be careful with him... especially with this Covid junk going around. I'm a real funatic on this washing your hands 20 seconds each time. My hands must be the cleanest hands in town. hahaha and I've made many masks too like for my kids & their family's too & hubby. ReplyDeleteMy daughter just had a miracle baby. She had placenta abruption and kept going to the hospital for days to tell them she was in labor. They kept sending her home. Finally, she went to another hospital and they admitted her and she had the baby right away. Had she not gone, the baby surely would have died and she may have too. The little one lost 90% of her blood. She has complications now, but it's too early to tell what and how many. We are just thankful she is alive. Such a shame though, that it even had to happen. It could have been prevented. I have four children and now four grandchildren, but I wouldn't dare give my newest grand a bath either, so I get it. She is so tiny and fragile, lol. I love to hold her, but even then I am extra careful because she is so small and delicate. Glad you had your miracle baby, and glad we have ours too. P.S. Our cat would NOT let us demonstrate with her, hahahhahahahhaha. She loves to be pet but hates to be held. :) Have a wonderful day!
