Unfortunately, we find ourselves at the start of another partial lockdown again due to a sudden resurgence of Covid-19 cases in my country.
Our government enforced the Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) in high-risk areas and my suburb is one of the hot spots.
This really sucks!
When will this nightmare ever end?
Sadly I don't think its going to end Veronica unless we get an effective vaccine or herd immunity or enough people die (I know terrible, isn't it?) But I was reading about the Spanish flu which was a pandemic back in 1918 as you might be aware of. It took about 18 months I think to get it wiped out and they basically said it was because people became immune to it or died from it. Interestingly they were mandated to wear masks during that time too. Churches were closed for about 2 months in some areas. Businesses were not shut down in the United States because we were at war still with WW1 and President Wilson didn't want to shut down businesses because of the war effort. Interestingly, the first wave of it was mild but it was suspected to mutate due to soldiers coming home from war being in tight quarters on ships etc and the second wave was very hard with people literally dying at times within hours of getting sick. It was a fascinating read. Anyway, I think this virus will be around forever and it will be like getting a yearly flu shot (not sure you do that in your country) with us having to get an annual coronavirus shot. That's just my opinion, not based on any science which seems to be the new buzz word this year.
ReplyDeleteSorry you guys are partially locked down again. Our numbers are going up a bit but they are being watched to see what the trend will be over the next 2 weeks. My step granddaughter returns to in person learning tomorrow. She'll be going 2 days a week, Monday/Thursday. There is also a Tuesday/Friday schedule. Wednesday is remote learning for all. The students/parents had the option of in person learning or still virtual learning. She opted for in person learning. She is a sophomore at 15 years old so her parents let her make the decision to return or not to return . Masks of course are mandated. She'll be taking the bus to school so I imagine one child per seat with every other row seating. I'll have to ask her when they come over for dinner tomorrow.

Hello, now very slowly, if you convert all of this, at least for us here, then it is put into perspective again.

The funny thing is that there is no longer any flu, it's all Corona.
It is also interesting that the face mask is only of limited use, because the aerosols are always in the air.
If the FRG ends the pandemic, it will end the whole world and the economy will be down.

ReplyDeleteThere are not many cases in my city, but there are more in the county and some areas are in quarantine. One "interesting" thing: people in quarantine areas can go to work in another area, without quarantine! It's very ok, because people need money, but it just seems weird.
The mask is mandatory throughout the country, in closed public spaces, in open but crowded public spaces, and in some cities it is mandatory from the first step outside the house, which displeases more and more people.
A historian - I don't remember his name, I heard him on a French TV station - said that a pandemic ends when people say what's enough is enough.

ReplyDeleteI think we are probably going to be dealing with this pandemic for at least another year, and a vaccine seems to be the only magic bullet. And even that is going to be difficult to administer when it is available, with its requirement for refrigeration and the fact that everyone will need two shots.

Well, it's all Donald Trump's fault, you know. Or at least that's what the media is all saying here in the states. So silly to blame one person for a world-wide pandemic...no matter your feelings on the guy.
ReplyDeleteIt's discouraging, but I guess we expected it with the cold weather here and everyone being indoors again. We will just continue to be safe...avoiding others and going out much. Stay safe and SANE, dear friend. We will be "normal" again...someday.

It's going to be some times before it's back to "normal" - I believe the old normal is gone. I can do most anything I want in my state but I don't. It's like an invasion and we have to continue to avoid the aliens who roam. Better safe than sorry.

Oh no! I am so sorry to read you are locked down again. It is happening everywhere. Here in the US, cases are on the rise and there are (incredibly) still a lot of people who refuse to wear a mask so the disease spreads. Stay safe!

You know lockdown may supposedly help in a physical way, in other ways it is not good at all. Depression, suicide, and addictions (drugs, alcoholism) go up immediately. The cloth masks are no prevention at all (they are of cloth. Your clothes are of cloth, they protect against the cold, but you still will get the flu virus, and the corona is a flu-like virus). Dear Veronica, we are all in almost the same situation. In Bucharest, the proportion of 3/1000 was exceeded. schools have closed, school is only done online, restaurants, cinemas, theaters have closed, and people have to wear masks everywhere except their own home. We have to be strong and endure, we will eventually overcome that as well.

In Belgium too we have new restrictions it's not a complete lockdown like in spring, but all restaurants, bars, pubs are closed, you are allowed to invite 4 people. Do your shopping alone and of course keep distance of 1.50 m and wearing a mask ! There is also a curfew fom midnight till 6 am !

Same here. I think because so many people have resisted following the restrictions, wearing masks, and just complain about the inconvenience and do not take it seriously. I have a bloggy pal in Australia where they were very strict, and people complied, and now they hardly have any cases anymore.
