Day 48

We were supposed to arrive in Milan for our Italian vacation on the 9th of March.

Just two days before our departure, our travel agent called to inform us that the trip was cancelled.

On March 9th,  the government of Italy announced a national lockdown.

There is no refund for the trip, only a deferment . No date has been given.

We are still waiting for a response from our travel agent who is waiting for a response from the tour operator who is waiting for the airline who has suspended all flights until further notice.

It's a long waiting game...

It's a no-win situation for any party and everyone is a loser.

I'm not even angry,  just frustrated.

Our Italian vacation is in limbo.

It's a torturous wait  and at 58, I feel my life seconds numbering.

The corona virus has hit the pause button on my bucket list.

So many places yet to visit, so little time.

  2. Oh wow Veronica! But it was good that it was cancelled before you got there. What a nightmare if you were there and it got locked down! Shame too that you can't get a refund. Such a nightmare!

  3. Coronavirus cancelled 3 trips I'd planned: to Washington DC, to a tour from the Grand Canyon through Arches National Park, and to the French Alps.
    Grr.
Thank you for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2020/05/quarantine-baking.html, and I do hope you are healthy and safe.

  4. here in florida, mr wonderful and i used to do a lot of traveling, many trips being impromptu road trips over the weekend. i love traveling in a car...i can take everything i could possible need or want. i am going to be 68 in june and i feel i may never fly again, which i hated anyway. the only thing really on my bucket list was the florida keys. we have talked about what we would do. other travel, would we rent or buy an rv and hit the open road?

  5. Ah, yes...BUT you are lucky that you weren't there and exposed to the virus, right? It's all in how you look at it.

I understand about the trip...I am sad that our lives will be changed by this and I may never travel abroad....but there is a lot to see in my great country too. I am trying hard not to think about the things I may not do, but instead focus on what we have done and what we can do. Otherwise, it is just too darn depressing!

    Hang tough, dear friend!

  6. Our third leg of our RV Snowbird Adventure to Arizona was put on hold. We were lucky to get all of our advance reservations refunded, but our airline reservation was only given back as a credit only good for a year. Hopefully we'll be able to fly back to Arizona before that time comes. We are on day 53, but who's counting. - Margy

  7. It's sad it had to be cancelled but on the other hand it's good I hope this doesn't last too much longer I think we have at least another 2 months yet.

Nice to see you post a pic of where I have lived all my life heheh!

Have a Londontasticly safe week 😷😷😷

  8. We cancelled all our travel plans for this year. I can't imagine being in a hotel room right now. Just can't. We're all doing what we have to do.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. ♥

  12. We're the same Veronica. Should be on a flight to Greece right now, but nothing. Not even a refund or a voucher. Roll on September and we'll try again. Don't give up hope you will get there soon.

  13. I believe travel in general will be a slow recovery. Hang in and try to wait for your trip. I look forward to seeing your photos even if it's next year.

  14. We have a beach vacation scheduled for June. Technically, we could probably still go since we drive there and it's open. But I don't know if it'll be safe or not. Waiting to see. Maybe 2021 we can resume our travels. The uncertainty of everything adds another level of angst. Hope you can continue to look forward to your Italy vacation one day.

  16. I miss traveling too! I hope you get to go to Milan soon. we were supposed to go to Morocco and Portugal at the end of March. That trip was also deferred.

  17. I hope everything will be back to normal soon. But I think an holiday is not that important for me now. We have to survive first ...

  18. Even a restaurant and movie would seem like a monumental vacation at this point! I hope you get to go on your trip!

  19. I sure hope we can get back to 'normal' soon and you get to travel! Lovely memory of the buses.

It's great to see you at 'My Corner of the World' this week!

  20. I read somewhere that Sicily is offering 50% airfare to tourists who visit in the 2nd half of May. But I don't think it would be a dangerous bargain. Would be wiser to wait and watch.

  21. Oh my Veronica, here I thought you were part of the Millenial crowd:):) See it as a compliment! Dear Friend, one year or less is not going to matter in the end, but if you have had a good time. So I wish you the best trip to Italy ever (and whenever!). After we spent a week in Tuscany, I can say, I left part of my heart there, so I hope that will your experience. Many thanks for sharing your experience, and for your kind comment. That many unexpected blessings may come your way, Jesh

  22. I miss traveling too!
My husband and I had reservations for Amsterdam and Keukenhof just these days. Exactly today we were to visit the gardens of the Keukenhof. :( Who knows when we'll be able to really do it ...

    Stay safe, Veronica!

  23. Hi! I may ask you a question: Why be angry and whatever... when you can't change anything? It is a waste of time and energy!
Reverse the filling doing something nice and creative and perhaps will be better! It was just a thought!
Happy WW and all the best and fun!

  24. It must be so frustrating to have to wait for the information about your trip to Italy. It’s nice you have something so wonderful to look forward to at the end of all of this.

  25. You are SO lucky it got cancelled in the nick of time. I wonder if people would still want to go if they could still see the virus as your earlier post shows. Fifty-eight is young. Have you seen all the non-narrated walking-tour YouTube videos of Italy and so many other places? They are wonderful and really put you in the scene from your chair at home.

  26. Love what you did with the London photo.
I turned 63 on Sunday and don't feel my days are numbered. I went to Italy a very long time ago and envy you being able to go at some point. Maybe you can take the time to learn more about the places you'll be going and what policies are and will most likely be in place. How about brushing up on your language skills? I don't think you can be too prepared and it makes the trip so much more enjoyable.

  27. We work so hard to save money for trips, and poof it all goes out the window with a virus. Hang in there.

  28. In some way I was lucky, I didn't book any travel, because we sold our house and I had to find an apartment which I found and everything went smooth, the lockdown for me was even good ! Now we have to move so that takes time too, and enjoy our new apartment as the weather is nice it will be holidays for us this year ! Next year I will see, my clock ticks quicker ! I am 77 !

  29. I’m so sorry for the cancelled plans! That’s frustrating and disheartening since I’m sure a lot of anticipation and planning went into your trip! I sure hope that international travel opens up before 2021 for selfish reasons; we want to take an overseas trip before our 8-month old turns two so he can fly freeπŸ˜‚ I posted about our 2017 trip to the Amalfi Coast this week if you’d like to travel via your armchair and screen but ignore it if that would make the missing worse!

  33. I'm sorry about your stayacation bummer. I'm worried about our scheduled international trip at the beginning of 2021. Sigh.

  34. We are so bummed about our canceled travel plans too! We are hopeful that will we be able to "make up for it" at a later date but we shall see.

  37. Having your travel plans cancelled is rough. Hopefully you'll be able to travel in the near future once this nightmare is over.

  38. I’m sorry your trip plans were cancelled. That’s hard. (But please don’t talk about your minutes being numbered )))... we who are old enough to be your mother don’t want to hear that ;))].]

  39. I was just telling the DH and the girls that I'm glad we managed to travel to Tanzania - Serengeti etc and Zanzibar before the pandemic hit home. This was late last year.

I shudder to think that international travel is going to be out of bounds for over a year now. And it seems so for local travel too.

    That's such a fantastic image.

Thank you dear Veronica for sharing on #WW.

You will travel soon enough. So hang in there. :)

  40. So glad I traveled in Dec/Jan (Malaysia too!) but was so glad to come home February. My brother had his May trip to Europe cancelled, and couldn't get his money back, so consider yourself lucky. Things will be different but we will travel again.

  41. Don't be sad and frustrated Veronica. Nothing is constant so this situation shall change soon. Take this time to slow down, go down memory lane, enjoy simple things in and around the home.

I love travelling too ....... its like soul food. But what can be done. There is no point wasting precious time pondering over it.

Have a cheerful week Veronica....... sending you love & light :)
