Cat On A Bike

We stumbled upon this weird cat, in tight spandex shorts and a hot pink top, on a bike in a random place on a sidewalk when we were in Brussels.

Created by Alain Séchas, this sculpture  titled “La Cycliste” cost the city of Brussels about 100,000 € back in 2005.

Hmmm, a cat with boobs for USD111,329.50?!

Cool or a waste of tax payers' money?

  1. I think it is cool but at the same time I'm thinking all that money for a cat on a bike? I'll have to see if there is a story behind it. Seems like if someone wanted to do that, it shouldn't be with tax payer moneys.

  2. Well, not taxpayers money, but I like it. I think our governments spend our tax dollars unwisely sometimes.

  5. Cool but definitely not worth spending tax payers money for it.

  7. I like it, but it should have been privately funded.

  8. Amusing sculpture, like a cartoon.

  9. It *is* different! And not to my taste, but that is OK. And I guess one of the purposes of art is to cause discussion and maybe even dissension, otherwise all we would have is “hotel room” landscapes. . I assume the City has budgeted a certain amount for public art.

  11. It's cool but weird. Just because I wouldn't have it in my living room (or yard) doesn't mean it's not art. Some people probably love it!

  12. Never sure why taxpayers are always getting handed the bill for this stuff. If art is good one would think there is a private market for it. Reminds me of the Rabbits from the old Roger Rabbit move.

  13. I love public art but that cat isn't my cup of tea. They must like it - to each his own I guess.

    I agree with Betty's comment.

  19. Well, I'll tell you what I like it until I look at the head! What happened? It's not as well done as the bottom half of the statue. What happened? It kinda reminds me of that cartoon... "Whatever happened to Roger Rabbit"!!! hahaha Wonderful Post my friend. HUGS...

  20. I think it's funny and fun. I can see the point of a waist of tax dollars, but we have so much stress and conflict it's fun seeing a light hearted piece.

  21. 'Art' is relative and, for the most part, I don't care for most of it. It's cute and will certainly capture your attention as you go by!

I'm glad to see you at 'My Corner of the World' this week!
