JUST A GALLIMAUFRY OF AI-GENERATED IMAGES, REAL PHOTOS AND RAMBLINGS 📸

A hanging daybed in the restroom?
Restroom in Vassilikos Restaurant, Santorini
Sometimes, all you need is a cozy corner, even if it's in the most unexpected of places. Unconventional, yet oddly inviting. Who says relaxation can't happen in the midst of daily routines?

Breakfast - paratha
Paratha is a versatile flatbread from the Indian subcontinent made with whole wheat flour, water, and ghee or oil. It's rolled thin, folded, and cooked until golden brown and crispy. Paratha can be enjoyed plain or stuffed with fillings like potato or paneer, and is often served with yogurt or chutneys. Loved for its flaky layers and delicious taste, it's a popular breakfast in Malaysia.

Interestingly, did you know that frozen store-bought paratha, with its flaky, crispy, and buttery goodness, makes a fantastic pizza base?

Doughnut wisdom  🍩

AI-generated image
“Ah, doughnut, son. Doughnut.” I would always use that quirky reminder whenever my sons complain about trivialities. It’s a playful nudge to shift their focus from what’s missing to what’s there—a sweet reminder to savor life’s blessings.

So, what's with the doughnut, you might ask? It is a power analogy that our parish priest, Father Paul, used in his sermon during one Sunday Mass. "God gives you a doughnut and you complain there's a hole in it," his voice thundered through the pews, rousing half of the congregation from their slumber that morning. His words painted a vivid picture that resonated deeply with us.

The analogy encapsulates a profound truth about human nature — our tendency to fixate on what's lacking rather than appreciating the abundance of blessings surrounding us. We humans, in our ceaseless quest for fulfillment, often focus on the voids—the missing pieces—rather than savoring the sweet completeness of our blessings.

LOST IN TRANSLATION: "WESTERN FOOD"

Picture this: a wide-eyed American wanders the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in search of a taste of home. Suddenly, he stumbles upon a sign that reads "Western Food" in bold letters. Excitedly, he imagines himself chowing down on hearty cowboy grub – beans, brisket, and maybe a side of lassoed potatoes. Ha, he's about to embark on a culinary adventure that's anything but Wild West!

As he approaches the stall, visions of saloons and tumbleweeds dance in his head. Our intrepid traveler braces himself for a taste of the American frontier.

"Yee-haw!" he exclaims, ready to dig into a plate of Malaysian "Western Food." But wait – what's this? Instead of a slab of beef as big as Texas, he's presented with a chicken chop drizzled in black pepper sauce, accompanied by a mountain of fragrant rice and a side of crispy fries!

So essentially, what is western food in Malaysia?

Western food in Malaysia typically consists of dishes influenced by Western cuisine, particularly European and American culinary traditions. This includes a variety of items such as burgers, steaks, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, grilled meats, and salads. Malaysian "Western food" often incorporates local flavors and ingredients, resulting in a unique fusion of East and West.

Note - Every AI-generated photo you see here is a product of artificial intelligence, meticulously and painstakingly crafted through textual descriptions alone. No actual photographs were utilized or manipulated in the creation of these images.

I've been getting requests to teach how to generate AI photos, so instead of responding to each email individually, I am sharing this in a post. But before we dive in, let me explain how this fascination with AI began. Remember those images of homeless people I shared on Gallimaufry#122? Long after my vacation in Greece, those sights haunted me, but I struggled to express them. Lacking artistic skill, words alone couldn't capture the vivid visuals in my mind. Like they say, "A picture paints a thousand words". That's when my son suggested I try using AI, but he warned me of the backlash I might receive. After generating a few images, well, you know the rest of the story.

I am no guru, just sharing what I've learned.

Let's get started.

1. On your browser, type bing.com
2. Create an account. It's free!
3. Navigate to Copilot at the top of the page. Hit return.
4. Scroll up a little until you see this.
5. Choose "More Precise" for conversation style.
6. Describe your image in the text input box provided.
7. Submit your request.
8. Ta da! You're done!
9. If the generated image does not match your description or meet your expectations, you can refine your description and generate a new image. This process can be repeated as many times as necessary until you’re satisfied with the result.

Remember,  AI does its best to create an image based on your description, but it might not always be perfect. It’s important to be patient and willing to experiment with different descriptions to get the best result. Happy creating! 😊

Here's an example inspired by my Paratha breakfast.
Haha! Notice the inaccuracy. The flatbread is not paratha, but chappati!
When it comes to AI, unpredictability is the name of the game. You never know what to expect, and sometimes you have to keep refining your description to get what you want. Occasionally, the images are way off, and they only get worse with each adjustment. In those cases, I find it easier to start fresh. If things aren't going as expected, start a new chat rather than continuously refining an inaccurate image.

AI operates on machine learning technology and AI models like Copilot rely on large amounts of data and continuous learning to improve their performance. Each interaction contributes to the model's understanding and capabilities, and it adapts based on the patterns it learns from a wide range of inputs. I've noticed that the accuracy of its outputs tends to improve over time as the model remembers and learns from my preferences and specifications.

If you were to type in the same text that I did in your input box, you will probably not get the same output that you see above. I think my past interactions with AI have trained it to adapt to my style and  requirements.

It’s important to note that while AI models can learn and adapt to patterns, they don’t “understand” in the human sense. They don’t have consciousness or subjective experiences. They process information and make predictions based on their programming and the patterns they’ve learned from data.

  2. Dearest Veronica,
As for the Godiva chocolates, that used to be part of Campbell Soup and at the Company Store, employees could buy the heavenly chocolate, the x–product. But the taste of course was perfect. My favorite was dark chocolate with raspberry filling and I kept it in the freezer on hand... In 2016, Godiva had about 650 retail stores throughout the world and two factories, Brussels and Reading, Pennsylvania, US. In December o 2007 Campbell Soup sold it to Yildiz Holding based in Istanbul, Turkey.
But in general Belgian chocolate is very good, such as the Callebaut Chocolate. Also Dutch Droste is excellent!
Would love to learn from you about AI as I do have some memories that I would love to work out like you are able to—later that is.
    Hugs and admiration,
    Mariette

  4. Thanks for the quick tutorial! I've seen lots of sitting room type areas in American bathrooms and I often wonder who really uses them? I rarely use a public restroom without having other family members waiting outside.

  5. I see you learned a lot about a new domain. Good for you!
And the images are quite interesting and funny! They are perfect for stories, more or less fictional.
Happy WW, dear Veronica! Have a fantastic week ahead! ❤️😘

  7. Always enjoy your posts, Veronica Lee, and your tutorial on AI was informative as well. For now, I have decided not to pursue using it, but those who have, such as yourself, have produced many interesting images, thank you. I vaguely remember that Twilight Zone episode (was it the one with William Shatner?) and I may try looking it up online later.

  8. I love Paratha, mind you I like food that has a bit of a kick to it such as Indian, Thai, Filipino. My son and I, we have to add chilli to everything plus lots of pepper.

  10. The food always looks so good and I could spend the day in the Godiva shop, even though I can't eat chocolate.

  11. If I'm ever out your way, I'll know what "western food" means. I imagine our "eastern" fare is similarly influenced by our local customs.

Yeah, AI is fraught with controversy. How did it learn to create images? Should the artists whose work was culled from the internet get compensated? What about human artists?

But the technology is here now with others using it, so why not? And besides, it's not like you'd have paid an artist to generate these images. You likely wouldn't post anything at all without the technology. (Also, it would just be rude to criticize you on your own blog about something like that.)

All the photos are lovely and I do like the AI that's been generated. Fascinates me. On my computer Copilot is where you type a question and it types the answer back, AI is done through Image Creator designer.microsoft...interesting

  17. I especially love your travel photos. That one of the Eiffel Tower is so beautifully composed. I wish I liked chocolate more -- there are a few that call me (brownies, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip cookies) but mostly just a piece of chocolate candy is wasted on me. But if you're going to do it, go with the Godiva!

  18. Chocolate is wonderful, and Leoniday chocolate even more so! We have a Leoniday store near hear, and sometimes I buy just one piece, yummy! Love the wonderful photos today! And the doughnut will stay forever in my mind, our Priest is so right! Hus, Valerie

  19. The Belgium chocolate shop looks charming. I would love to browse in there for awhile, as I'm a chocolate lover. The flat bread looks Yummy too. The Eiffel is beautiful. And you words about appreciating the abundance of blessings around us are very special. It's true, there are some that are fixated on more, more, more.

    Have a blessed week.

  24. First off that AI images are so cute. Glad you put directions up. And those chocolates from all over the place...Wow, I would just sit around and enjoy them and hope there are some truffles in all of those. My favorite being Moser Roth truffles if you ever come across them. Love the comic ....lolol...don't bring your problems to bed. Enjoyed the post. Always do here.

  27. Dear Veronica,
your collection was again very interesting and worth seeing. The daybed in the toilet is perhaps a nod to earlier traditions. Because as far as I know, the toilet in ancient times was a place where people chatted and did business. (I don't know how it is in the English language, but in the German language people sometimes jokingly say "I'm going to do my business" when they go to the toilet ;-)) Especially in southern European and South American countries, the anteroom of the ladies' bathroom is also a place where the girls resh up their make-up, do their hair, chat and sometimes share secrets. And a seat like this is also good for longer waiting times ;-).
Belgian chocolates are really good, I think that's because they're made with butter. We recently bought some (they were on sale in Easter packaging after Easter ;-))
Thank you for your kind words about my AI creations and also for your explanations here - you inspired me a lot. It's true that sometimes unforeseen things happen - some of my hippie-style women had beards, for example ;-DDD
    All the best, Traude

  28. Hello Veronica :)
An interesting post with lots of your holiday photos which are great. When I visited Brussels.I bought many pkt's of hand made chocolate as I love the chocolate truffles they make. I also like Swiss chocolate, but any kind of milk chocolate is consumed by me in the absence of Belgium chocolate. I'm just a chocoholic!.:) I'm sure many of your followers will be grateful for the AI information, but I wont be using it, but like to see what others do with it.. Thank you for another beautiful series of photos
    Best wishes

  34. Its kind of wild what AI can do. Thanks for sharing this information maybe I will try it out one day LOL. My landlords are from Greece, they are there now they go for the summer but don't think they are in a large city. Greece, not sure what to think. Recently there was a mob there that tried to storm a hotel where Israeli tourists where staying, not sure what they wanted to do to them...luckily the police intervened...

  46. Hello!
I agree with what your priest said, we only regret the things we lack instead of being grateful for what we have and I add with the wars that there are in the world, we have a lot to be grateful for living in peace, how lucky we are and what a great blessing. I love your photos, thank you for this very complete information on how to generate images in AI, it is very well exemplified and explained! Hugs!

  49. I bet the paratha would make a good pizza base! That sermon you described is definitely food for thought (no pun intended). It is so easy to single out the one thing that doesn't sit with you right, vs. focusing on the bazillion things that do! The lounge in the bathroom reminds me of the old movies and books where the woman would have to sit because she felt faint. ;)

  52. That bread really looks good.
From an outsider looking in it seems that Malaysia really has an intricate and rich culture, not just in food.
I've dabbled with AI. You have gotten really good. I think it was a good idea to use AI to illustrate your thoughts on the poverty in Greece rather than trying to take photos of real people. That would have been risky.
