We had a couple of hours to chill at the divine Porto Mykonos Hotel before our 3-hour ferry ride to Santorini.

He’s a nice tribute to the Santorini donkeys, who were once the lifeline of the island and were essential for carting goods, building materials, and people up and down the cliffs of Santorini.
When in Greece, you must indulge in a gyros.

Evil Eye
The Greek evil eye, known as "mati," holds a captivating mystique and cultural significance. Its cobalt-blue hue, often depicted in various forms like jewelry, keychains, or ornaments, serves as a talisman against malevolent intentions and negative energy. This potent symbol, deeply rooted in Greek folklore, is believed to safeguard against envy and ward off misfortune. 🧿

Our ambitious plan to conquer the 588-step Donkey Path (Karavolades Stairs), zig-zagging down to the old port, was abruptly halted by my protesting knees that groaned with every step I attempted. Besides, the stifling heat and smell of donkey poo were overwhelming. After descending no more than 10 steps, I called it quits. The hubs and Son#2 ventured a bit farther, but they too turned back. We detoured to ChillBox for a delicious frozen Greek yogurt instead!🍨
So beautiful! I love how blue and clean the sky looks..
ReplyDeleteThose stairs/steps so steep. Thank goodness for the donkey then I also feel sorry for them too. Nice photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos of Greece, the town of Santorini is very beautiful with all white houses.
ReplyDeleteI've never been there and probably never will because I don't want to fly anymore.
I am now enjoying your beautiful photo's so that I know what it looks like there.

ReplyDeleteA place full of charm, indeed.
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and exotic place Santorini is and your journey by see looked very comfy.
The Evil eye is hanging here in our veranda, gift from dear friend from Turkey.
Wow, that 588-step Donkey Path is quite a marvel from a distance but like you, I would not be able to make it up nor down. My knees are still wobbly and would give way...
You were wise for opting for indulging in a frozen Greek yogurt!
Hugs,
Mariette
Imagens muito belas que contribuíram, seguramente, para umas ótimas férias.

Devil's eyes are very common in Anatolia. You can take it to the door of your house or wherever you want. It is believed to protect from bad energy.
ReplyDeleteSantorini looks such a gorgeous place to photograph!
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be so many things I’d like to do in person. Having breakfast overlooking the beautiful seascape is wonderful. I’d feel dizzy standing on top of that long stairs.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Beautiful view of that special Greek island. I love the typical architecture of Greek islands with their white houses. I also like Greece's people food, such as moussaka and souvlaki.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Veronica 🇬🇷

Dear Veronica,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place Santorini looks to be with the white buildings set against that blue, blue sky. Gorgeous! Those donkey steps - wow - that would be a workout. Frozen yogurt was a good option.
Your photos of Santorini are absolutely breathtaking. What a beautiful place. I also though Marcos was such a cutie. I love seeing the wild donkeys that live in the desert near me.

ReplyDeleteGreat pics... thanks for sharing! I feel like I'm traveling... hehehehe take care!
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful peek into the culture of Greece! That staircase makes my knees hurt just looking at it from above! LOL TFS
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the sense of purity and smooth lines of the architecture.
ReplyDeleteHello Veronica :=)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Photos of Mykones and Santorini. I love the pristine look of the white painted buildings and the architecture, and the blue skies and blue sea. The food looks good, and not too many tourists, but enough to have a good atmosphere whilst looking at the shops. and I love the photo of you with your family. it seems that everywhere you go in Greece there are many steps to climb, I could not do it now, perhaps when I was younger it would not have been a problem. I once bought a pair of flip-flops in Athens
because I walked so much and climbed so many steps that my feet got swollen and my shoes had to be cut off my feet, but I would return in a heart beat if I could.
All the best
Sonjia.
This gallimaufry is magical. I'd never been in Greece, so I enjoyed very much what you presented this time.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Veronica!
Hugs and blessings! Have a fine December!❤️😘
WOW, those views are all so amazing, you are so fortunate to have been there!
ReplyDeleteThe Karavolades Stairs were amazing and I wondered if you actually could walk down them, veronica Lee. The architecture and views were wonderful and now I will have to add another place on my "bucket" list.
ReplyDelete...the El Greco Resort is beautiful. This morning it is white outside my window.
ReplyDeletewow i would have tried those steps but probably turned back also for the same reasons you mentioned. Awesome photos - really enjoying it all. Must be so great to be there with not only your husband but one of your sons.
