Recently, MR. DIY, a Malaysian home improvement company, carried out a social experiment in a local mall, and after watching the video, I suddenly felt my spirits lifted. There is hope yet.
Malaysians from all walks of life, races, genders, and ages came to the aid of the elderly man in the video. This is such a profound reminder of who we Malaysians truly are when we put aside our differences. We may be divided by race and religion, but we are all one and the same. We are anak Malaysia.
*anak in Malay translates as children
Take note of the old man's response in several languages and dialects. The average Malaysian speaks three languages: English, their ethnic language in various dialects, and Bahasa Melayu/Malay, which is the country's official language.
Malaysia will be celebrating its 66th Hari Merdeka (Independence Day) on 31st August 2023.

ReplyDeleteI think that history has proven, time and again, that humans will use even the most insignificant reasons to hate each other, and in many countries unscrupulous politicians are only too ready to fuel division. I have only had one all too brief two-day visit to Malaysia, and I was well received everywhere.

I was saddened to read about the divide within your country, Veronica Lee. It seems there is similar situations in many countries, the US included. Racial tensions and politics can cause so much tension.

Wonderful post today. I don't understand these outbreaks of hatred all over the world. No 2 people are alike - except for twins - and for me it doesn't matter which race or religion people come from, it only matters to be kind and have a good heart, and to respect others, regardless of their status. It makes me cringe how hateful people can be. Let's pray for a world united by love and respect. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteKindness matters. It always did and always will and it's a pleasure to see so many people offering to help the elderly man with his heavy packages. I think everyone in the world is feeling the division and it's sad for all of us. I grew up in the 50s and 60s where most everyone was carefree and happy and I wish we could have that kind of world once again. TFS a little piece of your world today, the photos are all wonderful!

The gracious help the old man got offered by so many and also the acceptance of the stray kitty at the zoo and a new friendship.
Guess we all ought to learn that the media is NOT showing us the truth!
They have been trying to brainwash into things that are NOT our thoughts and feelings...

I think it can be so easy to see the strife and discord that disconnects us as a society (we deal with that in the United States too!) but yet I do also notice so many random acts of kindness and compassion when out and about that gives me hope.

Of course I'll always love every bit of the food photos you show, especially my favorite, shrimp. But this time I was moved by your thoughts about the discord in Malaysia and couldn't think how it parallels in some ways that we are experiencing in the States). It makes me so very sad. And yet that video... wow. Yes, there is hope. And we must hold onto hope.

Oh, that senility quote is something else. I'm sorry your country is more divided now, and Yes, there is always hope for the future. I think many countries are divided, and it saddens me as well. Your animals at the zoo are different, and have never seen them before. Those shrimp dishes look so good. That's one of the only fish I will eat. It was good to see the old man getting help by others. Makes my heart glad.

I loved the senility prayer---I am 70 and soon headed that way---lol I agree that it seems internal discord is tearing people apart when we should be coming together for the greater good of the entire world. We have to stop the haters and embrace more goodness and kindness in the world.
