Vietnamese Dinner
Cรก Kho Tแป Recipe – Vietnamese Caramelized & Braised Catfish
I love the food in this Vietnamese restaurant, but I hate, hate, hate their QR code menu. Dining out is one of those epicurean pleasures that should be spared of technology. QR code ordering ruins the experience and is such a chore — the text is too small, takes ages to load and you have to scroll up, down multiple times to read through the full menu. And I hate wasting the first 10 minutes of a social engagement having to navigate a new digital platform every time I dine out. Poring over a traditional oversized menu is part of the fun of eating out and I sorely miss that.
Do we really need an app for everything?
Bring back paper menus, I say.
View of Butterworth, Penang from our Airbnb rental
I have never owned a mobile phone and don't plan to have one either...I would be frustrated if needed an app to order food. ‘Mona Lavender' looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteReally gorgeous photos. Love the curry beef dish there
ReplyDeleteBunga lavender ungu yang cantik. Love that quote too...
ReplyDeleteaku jarang memesan makanan by apps karena kadang terkendala error...atau ada kode kode yang rumit pengoperasiannya. Jadi prefer bayar langsung :)
Liburan yang menyenangkan. Enjoy everyphoto that you share here Kak Veronica, have a nice day ^^
I hate QR code menus too. But I like Asian food! ๐๐
ReplyDeleteThe food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteIf it were the case here that you have to order your food with an app, I wouldn't eat out anymore.
I love the Plectranthus 'Mona Lavender.
Greetings Irma
Your Skywatch photos are beautiful, Veronica. I love the 'Mona Lavender'. Such a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteWarm hugs!
Fabulous photos, especially the skywatch pics, they are stunning! And I'm with you all the way on paper menus. I spend many hours each day at the computer, but want something very different when I go out to dinner! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletePaper menus are best for me too. The local sushi place we patronize now has ipads on the table and a robot delivers the food! Dining out is getting ridiculously expensive anyway, so we mostly eat at home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice places, thanks for your sharing...
ReplyDeleteAs always, your photos are wonderful. And boy, I'm with you on QR code dining. In the first place, my phone doesn't do well with QR codes. And it's so impersonal. I go to a restaurant to be served because at home I'm rarely served! That's part of the experience. And so, it takes away a lot of the intereaction, which I like. I much prefer a printed menu.
ReplyDeleteI love the title of your blog! Those are some awesome photos, too. I especially love that purple plant/flower! I'm actually visiting from your comment on Crafteverly.
ReplyDeleteQR Menu doesn't always work but this is a lovely post.

I'm with you on the paper menu- my phone is small and I can hardly read on it. I love your quote about anger and the purple flower is spectacular. Beautiful photos as always.
ReplyDeleteLovely meal and photos, paper menus rock!
ReplyDeleteLove the Vietnamese food, but like you I don't like QR code menus. Very awkward.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you with the paper/plastic menus, Veronica. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI don't often see digital menus, but I know they're out there. Perhaps I don't eat out enough. That's probably it.
ReplyDeleteThat food looks so tasty!
ReplyDeleteAnd I must say, that lavender flower is beautiful! I love the fragrance lavender has to offer!
God's Blessings, to you and your lovely family!
Dearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteLove your Plectranthus photo!
Also the yummy Vietnamese food but I've so far kept most apps off my iPhone.
Prefer to view things larger, as on my MacBook or even on my iMac.
Pieter enjoys his iPadPro and no doubt likes anything on his simple iPhone.
Are we all FORCED into this?! It sure does not set the mood for a lovely and relaxed 'yummy' dinner together.
What lovely images from Butterworth Penang! A dream place to be for a vacation...
As for the Malay house, so many elements are typical. The open wood carved area above the windows for air (with screen behind) and also the typical wooden door. Rather well done.
Hugs,
Mariette
TFS more wonderful photos from around the world. Those purple flowers are just gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteEstupendas fotos. Me encanta la planta y la ๐ต roja
ReplyDeleteBuen fin de semana.
Un abrazo.
Beautiful photos! I am particularly partial to the lavender - one of my favorites. I hear you on the QR codes. I think it was a Covid precaution - and now it needs to go away.
ReplyDeleteI love purple flowers. I love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe're very fortunate that in the U.S. even though restaurants have the QR codes we can ask for menus and so far I've always been given one. My son's phone is so old that QR codes don't even work!
ReplyDeleteI always learn a thing or two when visiting your blog. The 'moment of patience' quote is very special. That Hulk is something else! That's too bad about the electronic menus. We have the paper menus all over here in the states. That's a cute little Mala house in the shopping mall. And those purple flowers are lovely as ever. My favorite color too!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful and peaceful weekend, dear friend.

my niece was from Vietnamese heritage. eating out with her was always an adventure. i miss her.
ReplyDeleteLa comida se ve rica lastima que se dificil pedirla. Lindas lugares. Mi favorito el arco del triunfo. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeletefun pictures!! i love the hulk and the wise quote!! i agree about menus but i have often thought about how dirty they are!! the food looks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteThe QR code sounds annoying. That hasn’t reached us here yet (or at least I haven't noticed it), though I think we pay for our coffee at a drive-thru that way and it’s only one item and it’s all in front of you so that is easy. A whole menu would be frustrating, but the dishes look scrumptious. AI is making itself know and goodness knows where that will lead. Thank you for sharing all these wonderful photos from your travels. They truly are delightful!
ReplyDeleteVeronica, I just want to let you know, I deleted my older blog seeing I didn't like the name of it, and created a new one. I hope you'll follow me there, like I have followed you.
ReplyDeleteGod's Grace, to you and your lovely family!
Love the mona lavender!
ReplyDeleteI'm old school and also prefer the menus because I don't have a data plan and wouldn't be able to access the menus on my phone. I have been to a few restaurants where you submit your order on the restaurant's tablet. This was okay with me since the restaurant provided the device.
Great view from your airbnb rental!
ReplyDeleteThere is a Vietnamese restaurant in Rome, which probably serves that Vietnamese Caramelized and Braised Catfish.
The name of that red scooteris "Vespa" ... it's an Italian luxury brand of scooters and mopeds manufactured since the eraly 1950s.
Have a nice week, Veronica .-)
Gorgeous views and sky photos. I love the pretty Mona Lavender. The food does look delicious. Take care, have a great week.
ReplyDeleteMona Lavender is a pretty flower....lovely color
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of QR code menus either. I get the reasoning behind it, but it is awkward and those who aren't tech savvy will wind up frustrated. I can do it, but it's a pain in the butt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/05/uh-oh-i-had-few-more-quilts-to-share.html
What a fantastic flower <3
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! The Mona Lavender is really gorgeous! Thank you, Cathy
ReplyDeleteI agree with the QR code situation at restaurants..
ReplyDeleteLovely photos.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciated your words about QR menus!! I hate those too for all the reasons you give, but also because at my advanced age, the difficulties in navigating them make me feel like I'm beyond too old to survive in today's world. The fact that you are obviously closer to my kids' age and also obviously tech savvy makes me feel so much better about myself. (I'll still avoid those restaurants though unless I absolutely can't!). Meanwhile, thank you for your collection, I do love your photos.
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed your photos lovely views and as always the food heheh!
ReplyDeleteHave a gallimaufrytastic week ๐
Your photos are all beautiful, love the food, yum. I don't like QR Code Menus either, there's not fun.
ReplyDeleteMmm... your Vietnamese dinner looked so scrumptious. I also loved the gorgeous photo of the Mona Lavender that you shared. This would make such a fabulous addition to any garden!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos and delish food! Ah, yes, the struggle with QR menu is real.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the QR codes at restaurants. The food does look yummy!
The flower is gorgeous, I love the color. I always enjoy seeing your travel photos. Beautiful skies and images. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and week ahead. PS, thanks for leaving me a comment.
Grat memories :D
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!

No, we do not need QR codes to dine at a restaurant, and thankfully we have not dined at any that did not hav e a paper menu. I would most likely leave if one was not provided. Lovely mix of food and flower photos and also the skywatch photos from your getaway. Where was the Hulk statue?
ReplyDeleteThe Mona Lavender is lovely. I completely agree about the QR codes. If they have them I always ask for a traditional menu. If they are plastic coated there is no problem about keeping them clean.
ReplyDeleteNice PHotos Veronica - ...i'm been off of blogging for awhile and glad to be back - and I really agree with you about the way you have to order now in certain restaurants. Your photos are always fun to see.
ReplyDelete...a gallimaufry at its best!!!
ReplyDeletewow, your lavendel is beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteLove that house mock up in the mall. It is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI started to to be curious each time about the content of your gallimaufry.
ReplyDeleteYou made them so interesting in ideas and colors.
And no, we don't need application for everything, I hate them also, but this is the small drop that want to modify our mind, from my perspective.
Anyway, I like the flower a lot and it's perfectly right about the anger.
Thank you, Veronica, for all the photos shared with us!
Happy WW and a fine week!
Hugs!๐❤️
Beautiful photography. You do know that I love your food the very best. Delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Veronica. ♥
