Mala hotpot
Hotpot aka steamboat is a Chinese-style fondue where you cook raw meat, seafood and vegetables in a pot of boiling broth at your table. Mala means numbing and spicy. Hence, a mala hotpot is a hotpot with an insanely hot and spicy broth made primarily of dried chili peppers, chili powder, douban paste, sichuan peppercorns, etc.

Duo broths
The evil mala broth is not for the faint-hearted, I caution you! The effects are long lasting. Your butt is going to be on fire the next day when you go!

Hi Veronica, you once again have a splendid choice of photos on show. Lovely to see scenes and plants I don't know, and the food looks wonderful! I think I would have to opt for the mild sauce in the hotpot! Have a great, new week, stay safe and happy, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYour rain forcasters are very beautiful. I like them very much.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a happy week ahead, Veronica!
I would still try the hotpot. 🔥
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday, Veronica!
I have eaten hotpot style in several places, but it has never been unbearably hot and spicy. Very enjoyable way to eat.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos
ReplyDeleteThat hotpot looks interesting, except I would prefer a milder broth myself :) Lovely photos, Veronica!
ReplyDeletebetty
Nothing that hot for me, Veronica, EVER!!! It sure looks delicious, which proves once again that looks are deceiving.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Have a lovely sunday :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do fish drying in the sun smell like? I imagine it has a distinct odor.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I won't be trying the spicy. I bet the "less adventurous" side is even too spicy for me.
Dearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteWell, this reminds me of the years that we lived and worked in Indonesia and I really got addicted to the hot spicy food. Eating those tiny raw red and green capsicum with snacks...
Love the rain lilies as well as the firecracker plant.
Hugs,
Mariette
Your photos are beautiful as usual. All of the food looks so delicious and inviting. That giant eagle looks a little scary in the building.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely choose the milder broth for cooking my food. What a pleasant way to share a meal with friends or family. The lilies are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteA great post with so many interesting photos. Very much enjoyed, thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello Veronica,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, you have traveled many places. I enjoy seeing your photos, so many beautiful sights to see. I love the Eagle carving. The food looks delicious, I can take a little bit of spice not too much. the fountain is beautiful and the flowers are all beautiful. Thank you for sharing your link and post. Take care, enjoy your day and have a happy week!
That hotpot meal looks droolworthy! I love those firecracker plants.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't eat anything that spicy! heehee! But I love seeing the fishing boats!
ReplyDelete:D
ReplyDeleteThat mala hot pot looks both delicious and seriously intimidating! I'm used to hot pot dinners but the spiciness of that one looks really dialed up! Gorgeous photos, all.
ReplyDeleteYour photo of the firecracker plant was so beautiful... and thanks for the warning about the killer mala broth. Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteAnother collection of fab photos and food can you save me some this week you forgot last week heheh!
ReplyDeleteHave a gallimaufrytasticated week 👍
Beautiful flower and fishing village photos. Although I don't mind mild spicy food every now and then, I won't be going anywhere near the Mala pot!! It even looks dangerous.

Beautiful flower as always Veronica...
ReplyDeletethe dumpling in hotpot mala looks so tasty... it's nice meal for rainy day
So many things to check out, I'm interested in the hot pot, I'm hoping it tastes of chilli
ReplyDeleteLindas flores y que comida tan rica. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos and collages.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful the fish market there in Kuala Sepetang.
The food looks delicious.
Photo 5 and 12 is really great.
Greetings Irma
You made me laugh with the killer broth. It does indeed look potent. I am faint hearted and will pass for sure. Lovely photos today- thanks for the smile.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and interesting photos again in this post! I will pass on the hot foods and leave that to those with cast iron tummies! :) Love that giant bird built into the rooftop too!
ReplyDeleteI must laughed too and thank you very much for your warning ;-) In Germany we doesn't have so hot and dangerous broth. Can you tolerate spicy food like that? I can't imagine eating that spicy
ReplyDeleteGreetings and hugs
Kirsi
As fotos são belíssimas, comidas apetitosas e diferentes da nossa, mas a quinta foto, a do gavião é impressionante!
ReplyDeleteAplausos!
Abraços.
Some particularly tasty shots today!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2022/08/classics.html
Such lovely and interesting photos; as always! I would definitely be a "mild" hotpot person.. and honestly, even that might be too spicy and hot for me as I am a wimp when it comes to spicy foods.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I also have to laugh out loud at your supplementary photo for "the killer mala broth" ;-DDD
ReplyDeleteI think my husband would try the "killer" (but I don't know if he would survive it or try it again), I would be more for the tomato sauce :-D
Anyway: We would BOTH have fun on a boat trip in the mangroves!
Loved your flower photos!
All the best,
Traude

What an interesting fish market! The food and the meal of that coastal fishing village in Malaysia seem delicious although it is too spicy.
ReplyDeleteI also like the architecture of Fritschibrunnen's buildings. Nice picture of that square! I enjoyed your post, Veronica :-)

Giorgio
Gran post . La cabeza de ese águila impacta. Es una gran imagen. No soy de muchas especias. Estupendas fotos.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
Just gorgeous - but now I'm hungry! #MCoW
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed your photos and I loved seeing the fishing village and the yum food too!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers at the end are so cheerful. Love seeing all the foods. It reminds Mom of when she was in that part of the world.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! The fishing village is a a very special place.
ReplyDeleteI only imagine the atmosphere there. The flowers are lovely. I did not see a firecracker plant. And the food is presented awesome.
Thank you a lot, Veronica! Happy WW and a fine week!❤️😘
I love anything on or near the water. Beautiful. Now the food is my favorite part. I love your food.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
I like the look of that fishing village. It's the sort of place I love to explore with camera and lenses.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers and food all look good. I used to like hot spicy food, but as I have aged I have it a lot milder now. No mala broth for me!
ReplyDeleteI'll leave the spicy stuff to others. lol
ReplyDeleteI love the firecracker plant.
The food looks good.
When I was younger I would have said, bring on the lethally hot hotpot, now that I'm older I've learned to temper things a little bit because as you say, the very hot spicy food can be very uncomfortable the next day. Still I'm intrigued by the whole hot pot idea.
ReplyDeleteThe rain lilies are gorgeous and the mala hotpot looks amazing.

I like a little kick, but these days I'm not all in with the super hot. My grandma used to say, "I like it, but it doesn't like me" for some things she wanted to eat but wouldn't. I didn't understand then, but many years later, I get it now. ;)
ReplyDeleteGostei de ver estas belas fotografias.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Loved the photo of the eagle sculpture!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, wonderful photos! Beautiful memories enclosed in photography. A souvenir for years :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Poland!
loved all the photos - always such beautiful plants and flowers in your area. And the food! Yes - ..i would eat that. That Eagle , ...wow. The fountain and buildings make such a beautiful photo. I would be out all day if I was around there and I would probably be eating all day too.
ReplyDeleteHey! I have firecrackers planted in my yard. My Mom loved them and had them all in front of her house. I had to plant some too.
ReplyDeleteI usually like some spice in food, but that hot pot would be a little too much for sure. The idea of the restaurant (using the milder sauce) sounds fun.
ReplyDeletefoods in the hotpot and around look yummy....
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing beautiful photos
This food look so delicious and flowers are so beautiful. I missing so much boats and rivers and your photos remained me how much I enjoy in them before.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are always so interesting and I like how the broth is served so there is a version for everyone - I definitely wouldn't be trying the spicy side, haha!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a good weekend :)

I'd love to try the hotpot, but I'll have to stick with the mild tomato broth! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love the photos. The boat photos! They are so nice and different. Thanks for sharing,
ReplyDeleteThat firecracker plant is something else. Looks like the sparklers we use on the 4th of July! Your dishes always look so delicious. I wish I could try some of them. The Eagle head is cool, and it's always a sight when we see the Eagle, as it's a grand bird. The forest by the river photo is very nice. I hope you have happy September days, my friend.

Stunning pictures of the waterfall and interesting info about the stone that every Malaysian housewife used to own in her home.
ReplyDeleteWith regards to tofu, I've heard that people ate more tufu during the Covid-19 pandemic ... maybe, because there are protein and vitamin in that food.
Enjoy the rest of this wek :-)
