One of my favourite places to visit is our very own KL Bird Park, reputed to be the world's largest free-flight walk-in aviary. I am not a fan of caged anything but in this lush tropical rainforest, our feathered residents roam freely.
Rhinoceros hornbill

The Great Hornbill aka the Greater Indian Hornbill
The Great Hornbill has a long lifespan extending over fifty years and is the largest member of the hornbill family.

I just love this quaint cafe in the bird park where you can chill in the company of friendly hornbills and egrets as you sit in an open verandah overlooking the hornbill zone. .jpg)

Unbloomed lotus, lotuses ...er..loti
So what's the plural of lotus?
Trypophobia is mainly visual. If you have this phobia, you might feel anxiety, disgust, and discomfort when looking at things like: lotus seed pods, honeycombs.

Wow, Veronika, what a treat and feast for the eyes today! Love that bird park, and great that the birds are all free. Your photos are fabulous. And a great cafe hich you can share with the birds. It's all so wonderful! And a shopping mall with a canal? Love the idea. Here in Germany it would never be allowed because of health and safety, sometimes they are just stupid with all the rules! ReplyDeleteAs you point out, expansive areas for the birds to fly free provides a sense of how they might be found in their natural habitat, which is being destroyed at an unsustainable rate. I have fond memories of hornbills in the Panti Forest in Malaysia.

There seem to be 60 varieties and amazing how they can live with that additional weight on their bill and even age till sixty years.

As for lotus in plural, lotuses and loti are both correct.

ReplyDeletethis Rhinoceros Hornbill looks VERY special - like a mythical creature! And the Greater Indian Hornbill is also a very strange sight for me - I have never seen such birds. What happened to the Greater Indian Hornbill's horn - it looks kinda cracked?
A very interesting place anyway and I like your plant photos again. And now I know I don't have Trypophobia ;-)

I never knew any species of birds could grow to 4 feet in height, but how beautiful are they in their splendid colors and flying free as they were meant to be? You've shared some amazing photos once again as I've traveled unseen parts of the world from my chair! I love learning about the things you share here on your blog! A canal in a mall is something I just never thought I'd see or hear of, but how amazing!

ReplyDeleteI learned something new from you today (as I do often) -- trypophobia is a new one for me and I'm glad I don't suffer from it! Oh my gosh, those hornbills are amazing! I'm not a fan of caged anything either, but I think that those aviaries a(and the better animal parks nowadays) are often where they save and rehabilitate injured birds. And that's a good thing.

I would LOVE to visit that aviary - amazing to walk through and see those birds and then the boats, etc. What a great place. Enjoying catching up here. Could "loti" be plural of lotus...lol..probably not.

I would love to visit that Aviary! The hornbill is such an interesting bird to see up close. It's beak looks heavy. The mall with a waterway in it is beautiful.
