Just a gallimaufry of photos ...
Yellow walking irisThe name refers to the plant's unique propagation process. New plantlets form at the ends of flower stalks. As they grow, the stalks bend under the weight of the plantlets and take root upon touching the ground. This process is repeated for each new bloom, thus giving the impression that the iris is “walking” across the yard or garden.

Vietnamese Coffee (Cà phê đá)
Cà phê đá, a traditional Vietnamese coffee recipe literally translates as "iced coffee". The coffee is made using medium to coarse ground Robusta beans which are Vietnamese grown. The idea is to make a very dark, slightly bitter, and very strong tasting coffee using a small metal drip filter unique to Vietnam called “Phin”.
FROM THE TRAVEL ARCHIVES
Countryside view of Bath
This little sacred space away from the smell of antiseptic and the cacophony of beeping machines and rattling gurneys became my refuge.
The hospital was named after Our Lady of Fátima, a Catholic title of Mary, mother of Jesus, based on the Marian apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria in Fátima, Portugal.
Hospital Fatimah was founded by The Brothers of Mercy, a German congregation. I can still recall its official opening in 1974. I was in the church choir back then and we were invited to sing at the first Mass held in the chapel. We sang a hymn in German! I think it was "Ein Haus voll Glorie schauet". I remember the long practice sessions we had with Brother James as we struggled with the lyrics and pronunciation. It certainly wasn't an easy hymn to learn!
Interesting photos, thanks for the commentary alongside them.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post:) thanks for your sharing...
ReplyDeleteI love Vietnamese coffee. I've only had it a couple of times but it is great.
ReplyDeleteI love the walking Iris's. Nature is very creative!
What a great chapel. So serene. Our airport has a chapel that is very nice and the hospital that brother spent so much time in had a very nice chapel as well.
It was a very special Iris, and I have never seen it before.
ReplyDeleteHappy new week ahead, Veronica!
Loved seeing this chapel and hearing the story behind it and your singing there many years ago. I'm glad you had such a place of peace and solace in which to retreat during your father's last days on earth. So special!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Veronica!
I don't think I've ever seen a lorikeet before. So pretty. Again the food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteSomeone must have taken a time lapse video of the walking iris. That's something I have to see.
ReplyDeleteI have had Cà phê đá made at an (authentic) Vietnamese restaurant. It was so strong I couldn't sleep all night lol :) That lorikeet looks like it is wearing a red scarf :) But so pretty! I do like that chapel! Great pictures, Veronica!

Wonderful photos and stories. The rainbow lorikeet is absolutely exquisite- in fact I've never seen anything like it and I loved learning about the walking flower too. All so interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a rainbow lorikeet (or any lorikeet, for that matter) so this is just amazing to me. How gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIkan sambal dabu dabu terlihat sangat menggiurkan. Terutama karena ikan dipadukan dengan omelet telur dan sedikit sayuran as garnish...it's looks full nutricious...
ReplyDeletecara mmeinum kopi ala Vietnam style cukup unik, aku belum pernah mencobanya, tapi es kopi Vietnam di negaraku sempat trend, apakah rasa kopinya bisa ditambahkan sedikit gula atau murni rasa kopi...
rainbow lorikett very beautiful. I like the gradation of the color ^^
Bello loro, linda cascada. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteIncredible photos, especially that Rainbow lorikeet; you are such an excellent photographer!
Not only that, but you manage to lay your soul in what you see through the lens and you explain about the subject.
About the Chapel of Hospital Fatimah, I can feel your pain as you laid your soul bare before God. Yes, it is for the loved ones watching, a very painful and touching way for letting go of a family member... Giving him/her back to God our Creator.
Lovely to read about you having sung in the choir, at the Chapel's opening back then. The one thing good about singing in German was that it is phonetic, just as Malay is. But any foreign language takes dedication and practice!
Sending you big hugs from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where we sleep tonight. On my way home from a long journey with my Pieter, by car...
Mariette
Gostei de ver estas belas fotografias.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

The yellow iris looks really beautiful. Love the waterfall too!
ReplyDeleteThe countryside around Bath reminds me of my own visits there.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing how beautiful nature is through your camera lens as I see things I've never seen before. The chapel is simply amazing and how wonderful you sang there in the choir as well as found peace there at your father's passing! TFS another chapter of your life through your photos!

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos especially that Rainbow Lorikeet
ReplyDeleteHave a gallimaufrytastic week 👍
I loved your photo of the gorgeous yellow walking iris... and the lorikeet was such a cutie!
ReplyDeleteThe lorikeet it so pretty and colorful and I just love that waterfall! Most of our hospitals have little chapels built inside them but nothing nearly as beautiful as the one attached to your father's hospital.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection of photos today - lovely iris and that gorgeous lorikeet have me completely amazed.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear Veronica,
ReplyDeleteI can well imagine that it was difficult to learn "Ein Haus voll Glorie schauet"! German is a very complicated language and so different from your language. It would also be difficult for me to learn a song in Malay (is that how you say it?)!
You have posted wonderful photos again - I am particularly enthusiastic about the rainbow lorikeet! Oh, and some years ago i was in Bath, too - a beautiful place with a nice surrounding!
Hugs and all the best,
Traude

ReplyDeleteHow interesting that you have links to Bath. I am sorry that the links bring back memories of the passing of your Dad. It seems that it was a number of years ago Veronica and I hope you have some good memories also.
ReplyDeletePretty yellow iris, nice photos:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic waterfall!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the Vietnamese iced coffee. Thank you for sharing the information. I know that Vietnam is the world's main exporter of coffe beans.
Love the colourful pictures of the parrot.
Have a nice week, Veronica :-)
Beautiful lorikeet, it's not often we see them here. I'd like to try the vietnamese coffee though.
ReplyDeleteNice to learn about the Walking Iris. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd the Rainbow Lorikeet is so attractive!
Beautiful photos. Colorful.

ReplyDelete...Veronica, I love your colorful post, enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice red jacket that friendly fowl is wearing. :) Here to see your pics and say Happy Wednesday to ya!
ReplyDeleteA fun post Veronica. I liked the way you showed some of the pictures in the mosaic and then by themselves in larger format. Especially the rainbow lorikeet because I was really wondering what that bird was (in the smaller version). As always your food photos are amazing and make me hungry!... Thank you also for story of the chapel and how much it meant to you at a time when you needed it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos especially the water fall and the church's bench was so unique....
ReplyDeleteSuch a colorful bird, Veronica Lee and loved the walking iris name! The story about the chapel and how it was of comfort to you when your father was in hospital was very nice to read.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful variety of photos! They are always fun to see, all jumbled up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your link at My Corner of the World this week!
Your post is varied, you have used wonderful things from all walks of life. I also love small chapels where you can find peace and serenity, greetings to you, Karin Lissi
ReplyDeleteLovely Irises, Vero. I had the good fortune of having Lories feed off my hand at the Singapore bird park, when we lived in SG. :) It was fun!
ReplyDeleteI miss Malay food. And that chapel is so calming. I am glad you found that view and space amidst a trying time.
Big hugs and all my love.
Have a rejuvenating weekend, my dear friend. Love ya. <3
Oh, I like that single cup coffee filter. I have one also, but it's getting worn out, and wanted to get a new one. Does this metal one make hot coffee as well I'm wondering? That Lorikeet is amazing. What a great picture you took. I have a blog friend who lives in Australia, and the Lorikeets come to her yard all the time. Such an exotic looking bird. The waterfall is so pretty. Water is so calming to be around. I know the story of Our Lady of Fatima well. The three children, Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco are my beloved Saints. I've seen the movie a dozen times. I'm glad this little chapel comforted you when your Dad was in the hospital. I lost my dad when I was 28. It's difficult, but they stay with us, don't they?
ReplyDelete~Sheri
That's so cool that you can walk under the waterfalls!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. The pineapple kombucha sounds delicious. I love pineapple teas!
Beautiful photos, especially the waterfall.

Greetings Irma
The view at city is amazing. And these yellow flowers are so unique and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHello Veronica, :=) I enjoyed seeing all the diverse number of photos you took. Although I'm on a break right now, I came to comment, as yours was one of the last comments I received. The reproductive nature of the pretty Yellow Iris is just amazing, and the Rainbow Lorikeet is SO beautiful. Also was impressed with the waterfall, and the chapel. I am glad you found a place where you could find peace and tranquillity when you needed to.
ReplyDeleteAll the best. :=)
I would like to try Indonesian foods, too. Happy Sunday to you.
