Gallimaufry#22

Just a gallimaufry of photos ...

Dwarf Mussaenda

Leaves or petals?
Stumbling upon these rather unusual flowers, I wondered if the white parts of the plant were leaves or petals.

I learned from a botanist friend that these white wings are bracts, that part that is found above the leaves but below the flowers.

  1. The plant with the white bracts reminds me of the poinsettia plant that is so common here at Christmas. The red or white or pink "flowers" are bracts, and the actual flower is tiny, like the ones on the plant you showed us.

Your tea treat looks delicious! Have a good week, Veronica. Enjoy your beautiful world.

  14. I am always drooling over the foods that you share on your posts haha. That dessert with your tea looks amazing. I wish I had a piece to go with my coffee this morning. The girls visited Amsterdam years ago, and said it was interesting and enjoyed it. That bridge looks really old and charming, and the water buffalos are unique. The noodle dish looks delicious. I would love to sit on your balcony and see the dazzling sky views that you see every day. Have a good week.

  18. ok - give me one month to live at your place and i'll give you a month in the mountains, lolol. i would love to take in the views from the balcony - beautiful sunset - also the flowers -- i always look forward to when you post your flower photos. I usually google what you put up to see more of that species. The food of course i would definitely try although i'm thinking it might be kind of spicy for me...the one with the indian spices but I'm game. p.s. you wouldn't want to live in the mountains because this time of year can get really boring - hard to get out and hike about.

  29. I'm jealous of the blooms. It snowed here this morning. We could use the moister, but it was just a dusting so it didn't help anyhow.

    Fun water buffaloes!

  37. All lovely photos, but that sunset is beautiful. I love the smell of Jasmine. We have one in the garden in a big pot. Last winter started mild so the buds came early, then it turned very cold and even though we wrapped it in fleece the buds dropped. This year we struggled to get it in the greenhouse and of course it has been very mild! It is flowering already which is far too early.

Oh Amsterdam, I love this colorful city, but I haven't been there for a very long time. And where did you photograph these original water buffalos?
Your view of the sky is also wonderful, the food is tempting and the plants are very beautiful!
