MALAYSIAN FOOD

Yong Tau Fu

Yong Tau Foo literally means stuffed tofu. Ground meat or fish paste  is stuffed into a variety of tofu products, vegetables and mushrooms and typically served in a clear broth with noodles or rice. Yong Tau Foo is a food of Chinese (Hakka) origin.

Bitter melon, shitake mushroom, chilie, eggplant, okra, snakebean are commonly used for stuffing.

Mandarin oranges
During the Chinese New Year, mandarin oranges are considered as a traditional symbol of abundance and good fortune.

Cookies and mandarin oranges are exchanged as gifts with family and friends throughout the 15 days of the Chinese Lunar Year,  kinda like gifting during Christmas.

  22. Dearest Victoria,
Hah, you have been very close to my birth area as Brussels is only about two hours driving, south of the Province of Limburg in The Netherlands.
Oh the food, just ate my supper as otherwise you would have made me really long for it; rindu sekali terus!
    Love the Mandarin orange's meaning.
We eat them daily and love them; dark chocolate too...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  25. I love your various photographs. Especially the Atomonium (hope I got it right). Years ago, I was sent on a mission to Amarillo, Texas to testify at a Texas Railroad Commission hearing on something really boring. More interesting to me was my hobby geocaching and so I found a cache at a memorial to the Helium atom, which looks similar, to your photo, but I didn't tag it correctly, so somewhere in the 80,000 photos of my archive is a badly tagged photo I tried to find.
Oh yes, I didn't testify, when I got back to Tulsa my boss asked how it went, and I said that I got there too late. True confessions.

  26. Happy New Year Veronica and family! That Yong Tau Foo looks really tasty! We just started having a little tofu in a salad from one of the fast food restaurants here and wanted to branch out on cooking it. I don't think we are ready for something like this, but it sure looks very good!

I like those sculpture pictures! So cool looking!

  47. I have been trying to understand the Golden Shrimp plant. I came to the conclusion that it is so called because its shape is a little like a shrimp? Unless it’s a culinary herb to impart a fishy flavour? Those snake beans look as though I might enjoy them, a little like our runner beans. I’m a great lover of oranges and although they don’t grow here in England this is a good time of year to see lots of Spanish Valencia oranges in the shops.

  48. I'm loving the sculpture, very unusual but I think I'm going to try and make that mango salad, looks scrumptious.

  55. Thanks so much for sharing the link to that Thai mango salad. Oh, my stars, that looks so good. Would probably have to add some chicken for my meat-loving husband and then we could call it dinner.

The sculptures at the theme park are so fun. I thought they were carved from trees? Is that correct? I guess not after looking again.

Always interesting to see food that I don't recognize or eat. Everything looks delicious. Fun to learn about the oranges for New Years.
