Bamboozled!?

A friend has been raving about an artisan milk teahouse that has opened in her neck of the woods for some time.

Curious, I decided to give the high-end tea a try and ordered via a food delivery service.

The milk tea was delivered in this beautiful paper bag...

and in a tall, elegant, 9 inch cup.

It cost me almost twice the price I would pay for my regular bubble tea but I thought it was well worth the money, judging by the height of the cup.

I had the White Peach Oolong Milk Tea and it really was amazing!

Funnily, when I savoured the last drop, it didn't feel like there was a lot of tea in such a tall cup.

My curiosity piqued, I tore up the back of the cup and here's what was revealed!

Haha! This explains the very short thin straw that came with it!

So was I duped?

Not really. I was told that when the milk tea shop first opened, they launched their "Tear Cup" campaign where mystery gifts like discount vouchers, lipsticks, mini bottles of hand sanitizers and perfumes, etc were hidden in their signature cups.

A rather clever marketing gimmick, don't you agree?

  1. It is a clever marketing technique! Good you knew about it before the fact otherwise I might have felt a bit cheated, no matter how good the drink tasted!

  5. That's a lot of packaging for a cup of tea. I would have been happy with just the tea.

  6. How about a cookie surprise in the bottom of the cup? Oh, there are so many fun things you could put in there. Cute idea....cool cup and bag.

  7. That was a fun bit of deceptive packaging, though.

  14. That sure is clever indeed, Vero. Well, not sure if they will lose business or not. But the packaging though lovely is deceptive.

    How have you been?
    Missing you sorely on #WW.

  20. That is kind of funny but probably disappointing if you are not the one getting the mystery little gift.

  28. Hey Girlfriend, How ya doing? What I wanna know is what does this taste like warm milk, tea with milk or something else? 33. Pretty cup and that is a marketing idea. I never would have thought to look inside the cup for a prize!

  34. I would be the goofball who didn't realize there was a gift in the bottom when they were running the promotion, and waste a perfectly good freebie, lol. That's awesome you could have it delivered!

  35. Hmm, I'm a little torn. On the one hand, the bag and mug look elegant. But I think that so much packaging material is not up to date. We have to save packaging instead of overdoing it, the world is already full of rubbish. And even if there used to be gifts hidden in the mug, I still think it's a sham package. It's good that the tea was at least tasty!

  36. Beautiful bag and cup design. They are good at choosing attractive designs that make people hooked to buy them.

  37. Firstly, I loved the bag. It is so pretty 😊💓

Secondly, I found the 'Tear Cup' campaign brilliant though paying twice the usual price for those freebies, nahhh! By the way what goodie did you get 😀

Finally, I simply loved the way you narrated the whole episode. 😍

  38. If you look closely you will see that there is some kind of cup underneath and that was the surprise. Sometimes people do a lot to attract customers, but many probably did not realize that there was still something in it. And has troy the cup away after drinking the tea. Thank you for your visit and nice reactions and it's great that you appreciate the cows as well. The Netherlands is quite beautiful, but you probably say that about your environment and that is why I enjoy other bloggers sharing something from their environment.
