Oftentimes, I still wonder if my little buddy ever made it after we sent him off into the sea.
It is estimated that only 1 in 1,000 turtle hatchlings survives to adulthood. Along with fishing gear and climate change, there are numerous human activity threats to sea turtles.
But for now, the fate of turtles may change and the Covid-19 pandemic could be playing a role.
Endangered turtles are thriving as global lockdowns vacate beaches across the world.
In Thailand and India's eastern coast, millions of endangered baby turtles were seen making their way on empty beaches to the sea!

Endangered sea turtles are nesting in peace — at least for now.
I am also concerned about the exploitation of sea turtles and I am partly forbidding that action.

I like to think that the animals that we release go on to live happy animal lives...even if it is only a short time. Living in the wild is tough! I think about our little turtle, Squirt, every so often. I hope that she lived...or is living...the life that every turtle should live. Beats living in a 10 gallon tank for your entire life.

ReplyDeleteOne positive result on day 62:) Another one is what Breaking Christian News wrote about. Because parents were all this time forced to teach their kids, because the schools were close, home schooling has increased in America. That means that hundreds of kids won't be subjected anymore to information about sex and religion where they are way too young for! Am so happy about that! Hope your little turtle made it:)

I just saw a cottontail bunny today on our walk. I've seen deer as well. Even here in the city animals are reclaiming territory. Wonder what will happen with everything starting back up. - Margy

The much endangered Olive Ridley turtles made a huge come back in the beaches of Orissa, in India. So yes, Mother Earth indeed is reclaiming with the pandemic. Thank god for these blessings in these grave times.

ReplyDeleteThe pandemic has been specifically been good for nature & the lives it encompasses. There have been numerous photos & videos of birds & animals enjoying their freedom & space. Unfortunately it maybe short lived as highly unlikely that humans have understood the change needed.

Nature is thriving as people “hibernate”.... a lesson there for sure. It must have been wonderful to foster that baby turtle.
