Style Or Function?

Tableware is getting ridiculous these days. Take the following bowl for instance.

Can you guess what's different about it?

The sides of the bowl don't look right, agree? The broth is sloping to one side.

That is because the ramen was served in a slanted/angled/sloped bowl.

I find this a tad annoying. It gives me the feeling that my food is going to spill over.

Imagine serving this to someone who has Symmetry OCD!!

Do you think it is designed this way for lazy people so they don't have to tilt the bowl when they want to spoon out the last drop?

  1. I think that is the "new" thing in styling bowls and serving dishes these days. Doesn't bother me...but it may through you off initially.

  2. That is a little crazy. I don't mind it myself. I can see your points too. I do like that they now have kid bowls that have a suction cup bottom. Kids can't get it off the table, but an adult can. My kids are past this, but my sister found it useful for her youngest.

  3. I can see the point, but it's not very attractive. Storing would be another issue. I can see the point though.

    The food looks fabulous.

Have a great day and weekend. ♥

  4. I've seen these but not eaten out of one, because they annoy me. They annoy me BIG time. It's a dumb ass novelty.

  5. I've noticed it too at restaurants here but I have also noticed that the size of the bowl/dish has gotten smaller. Its almost like they are trying to draw your attention away from that and focus it more on the design of the dish, bowl, etc.

  7. I think it's designed so the short side is in the front and the tal side is in the back so that you can see the design -- like a kitchen backsplash behind the stove. Otherwise the soup covers all the design until you lower some of the soup. I could be wrong. It's just a guess.

  11. they always come up with something new these days. And you're right, Veronica..it gives the impression that your ramen is about to spill. I love ramen, btw :)

  12. My fiance gets wound up by food being served on wooden boards rather than crockery. I just want nice food, I don't care what the plate looks like! Thanks for linking up with #globalblogging

  13. I can appreciate the quirkiness of the bowl, but I agree that I would feel like my food is spilling out. #FabFridayPost

  16. I think the bowl would be annoying. I'm picturing myself trying to eat soup out of it, lol. Whatever is in the bowl looks much more appetizing. Did you make it? Yum Yum!

  17. It is all very well having a bowl like this, but it does have to be functional. Having said that, I do think it looks pretty. Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS . Hope to see you again next time

  21. Haha, that's an unusual bowl for sure! I don't see why they though a sloping bowl would improve anything... Hm... The food looks yummy though! X #KCACOLS

  22. I haven't come across something like this before. It is certainly strange! Not sure how would I felt if I have a bowl like that in front of me but I guess as you said it can be easy to drink the last spoons from there! lol ... thanks for sharing this with us at #kcacols :) xx
