Josh

Josh started pre-university about 2 weeks ago and he seems to be enjoying college life. The Dean awarded him a scholarship in the form of a tuition fee waiver for the Foundation in Science programme. Josh intends to pursue a degree in Biotechnology.

While sorting the laundry this morning, I saw Josh's lab coat in the pile for the first time. Don't know why but it made smile. It seemed like only yesterday I was sorting out his white high school uniform!
Yes, we are still living under the same roof! The university is a ten-minute drive away and after doing the math, it works out that it is more practical and economical for him to stay with us than to move out. I am secretly doing the happy dance! I think he is less than pleased though.
I asked him what's the best part of college life so far and he says it's the food! :smack:  He enjoys his meals at the restaurant that are prepared by the culinary students from the School of Hospitality. It's a restaurant that is run by the students for the students. I had lunch there once and the food was fantastic. The variety is amazing and the prices really affordable. The School of Culinary Arts in his university is among the best in the country. How lucky! The canteen food in the college I attended really sucked!

  1. I hope that he gets to experience some time away from home during his college days. I think you learn a LOT from living in a dorm and amongst people who are very different from yourself.

I know, I know, pally--you want him close. But really, it is good for everyone when the baby bird stretches his wings. And while you are sad anticipating his departure, it really isn't as bad as you imagine. I sorta like my empty nest now. And I really like who my children have become experiencing the world.

I hope he comes to the states at some point!

  2. Those cookies were cute!! Sounds like he has a great career ahead with biotechnology!! I think it is wise, especially the first few years of college, to live at home. A lot to get used to with college, so why add on the extra of being out in a dorm or other situation especially if he is so close to home? He'll have plenty of time to be on his own in years ahead :)

  3. That's so cool! You must be really proud of him. How many of those cute cookies did you have to make? It looks like a lot of work. My son leaves for his first year of university on the 6th of February. Unfortunately, it's too far away for him to live at home, but I think he's happy to have his "freedom." 6. I bet the food is great! We had a Chick Fil-A on my college campus, but I got so tired of eating there. Anyhoo, I bet you are so proud of him. And those cookies are ADORABLE!!!

  7. Hahaha... I like the emoticon you inserted after 'he says it's the food!' But seriously, lucky him to get good food at affordable rates. Congrats to Josh for the scholarship! Way to go :)

Do let us know Josh's friends' reaction to the beautiful cookies. Did they have the heart to eat it or it was preserved? I would have done the later and put it n display for my guests :D They are soooo good looking.
