David Laferriere - sandwich bag art

While most parents would slip a note into their kids' lunch bags,David Laferriere goes a step further. A graphic designer and illustrator, David uses a Sharpie marker to draw on his kids' sandwich bags. Each drawing is done just after he has made the sandwich. He takes a picture and posts to flickr. His kids don't see the drawing until it is lunchtime.

Willard Wigan

Willard Wigan creates his sculptures under a microscope — small worlds of their own that are almost invisible to the naked eye. Willard carves his sculptures out of grains of rice or sugar, and paints them with a hair plucked from a housefly’s back.
A sculptor from Birmingham, England, Willard discovered his talent at the early age of 5. He often takes months to complete one of his sculptures, working between heartbeats to avoid hand tremors.

The World's Only Orang Utan Hospital

Situated in the heart of the Malaysian jungle, the Infant Care Unit at the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary- dubbed Orang-Utan Island, is a very special hospital.
All of its patients are from the endangered Borneo species of orang-utans, the Pongo Pygmaeus. Without the facility, built in 2004, the species would probably be extinct.

Egg Crate Art

Dutch artist Enno De Kroon paints portraits on cardboard egg crates, a technique he calls 'eggcubism'. He views the cartons as 2 and 1/2 dimensional as the cups on the cartons obliterate certain angles of the viewer from every point so the painting becomes completely interactive with the viewer. The obscured areas from the cups make the paintings appear incomplete and leave it up to the viewer’s mind to fill in the missing areas.
