Traditional biscuits
I hadn't seen these childhood biscuits for a very long time and was surprised to find them still around. This palm-sized triangular biscuit evokes nostalgia of simpler times when surprises like finding a coin wrapped in newspaper inside could brighten your day. As a child, opening one of these biscuits was akin to participating in a mini lottery. The anticipation of whether you would find an empty biscuit, a coin worth 5 cents, 10 cents, 20 cents, or 50 cents turned an ordinary snack into a moment of pure joy. However, I was told by the shopkeeper that the practice of inserting coins inside the biscuits has been discontinued due to hygiene concerns raised by health authorities.

Florence 2023Youths by the river
This photo was captured through the window of our passing coach. I love how each member of the group adds their own unique perspective to the scene. The backdrop tells its own story: the gentle flow of the Arno River, a bridge spanning its width, and the majestic architecture of Florence rising proudly against the horizon.

Fotografie sul tramonto molto belle.
ReplyDeleteBuona giornata.
When I see all the plastic wrap on those cookies it’s no wonder that the oceans are full of this stuff, and there is plastic pollution everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI just love the photo of a food delivery person who stopped to enjoy the beautiful sunset. The story behind the triangle biscuits sounds like such fun childhood memories too with finding coins hidden inside. Great photos - thanks for sharing them all.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, the clouds over the sea are my faves. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThe photos of the sunset are very beautiful, Veronica!
ReplyDeleteMany hugs.
Wonderful photos, Veronica!
ReplyDeleteI love that photo of the boats on the edge of the water. You should frame that one.
ReplyDeleteI also like your memory of the biscuits with coins. I can see how fun that would be for a kid!
How exotic, the second and third photo are my favourites today. The ocean, the boats - are an amzing scene I think.
ReplyDeleteGreetings

Dearest Veronica,
ReplyDeleteYour images always bring back fond memories of our life in Indonesia.
Those boats we observed in East Java.
The noodles of course we ate at different Asian restaurants.
The triangle cookie I don't know but the one at the bottom right—yes.
Yesterday when it was 25°C we saw so many turtles perched on top of a pond overflow. They are fun to observe.
Hugs,
Mariette
The landscapes are magical. I can not speak about food, but they looks very pleasant. Have a fine week, ahead, dear Veronica!
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings!❤️😘

ReplyDeleteI would love to browse through that biscuit shop, it's delightful. Such a fun story about the coins inserted in the biscuits when you were a child. The sunset is beautiful, and I especially like the photo of the food delivery person taking a moment to appreciate it. The Florence picture is wonderful, and one you'll always remember.
ReplyDeleteHave a restful weekend, my friend.

Those sunset photos of the beach -- unbelievably beautiful and so evocative. They "take you there." How fun to rediscover the biscuits of your childhood!
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE fan of ramen, only the real traditional asian though, anything else is an imposter but I love how you can add just about anything to them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sunset pictures. I also really like the one of the youth by the river. It tells a story.
ReplyDeleteFun memory about the cookies, although the old practice of inserting coins wrapped in newspaper does sound unsanitary. And yet we all managed to survive many such things in our youth, haha.
oh that ramen looks scrumptious, Veronica ... and the boats at a stormy sunset somehow are very calming. i hope your weekend is delightful and renewing ...
ReplyDeleteThe classic biscuit catch my eye Kak Veronica.....looks so delicious

Hello,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset. I love the views of the water and boats. Noodles are my favorites. The turtles are cute. Take care, have a great week ahead.
Always such a fun journey through your varied interests (which are all mine as well!) The fishing boats out at sunset makes a lovely picture... I wish I had the Asian Noodle poster in my kitchen ... and though I've never been to Florence, the scene reminded me of what we saw in Bruges and Ghent and some places in Germany ... kids enjoying the weather and just being out there, but not paying attention to the scenery that was so familiar to them!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - my favorites are of the sunset
ReplyDeleteI think I've tried all the noodles except for Soba noodles.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sunset photo! The edibles look delicious!

ReplyDeleteYour sunset and scenery ones are amazing, but all are great photo captures.
ReplyDeleteVeronica, it's lovely to read about your rememberings of childhood. I agree, I sometimes have similiar thoughts, if I found an old thing too.

Mom has always found it amazing how those delivery people navigate all the traffic with their 2 wheeled vehicles. How nice to see one taking a relaxing break.

Hello Veronica!
ReplyDeleteI love those pictures of cloudy landascape. Great to hear you enjoyed Florence last year. Did you visit Ponte Vecchio while you were walking through Florence historical centre?
Turtles are marvelous creatures.
There is a whole world of asian food that I just know nothing about.
ReplyDeleteI love little surprises. In college I learned about operant conditioning and it took some of the fun out. Just some though.
lovely sunset. our delivery service riders can't enjoy such views.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veronica Lee, for the posted which explained various types of noodles. It would have been wonderful for you to find a coin inside the biscuit as you said a child-style lottery. The sunset atPantai Bersih was a serenly beautiful scenic.
